Abstract
LOPEZ-MERA, Silvio Fernando. Expectations and Realities of Colombian High School Students: The Experience of Medellín. Ens. Econ. [online]. 2019, vol.29, n.55, pp.82-128. Epub Mar 14, 2020. ISSN 0121-117X. https://doi.org/10.15446/ede.v29n55.80299.
Since 2004 two studies have been developed in Medellin -Colombia- that can support policies aimed at improving the coverage, quality and relevance of the city's education system. The first is the study of expectations in higher education of 11th grade students and the second corresponds to the follow-up done with high school graduates of public schools in the city. Unfortunately, both studies have not had enough window to become models to follow or study, and therefore, their findings have not been properly used in the design of educational policies. The purpose of this document's exploratory and descriptive analysis of the information from both instruments is to show this important input for educational policy. The results make it possible to recommend the co-financing of higher education, strengthening of the vocational guidance system in schools and implementation of monitoring units for high school graduates.
