Abstract

BASTIDAS-MARULANDA, Alexander-Darío. Antioquia's Agricultural Production: An Index of Farming Municipalities. Ens. Econ. [online]. 2020, vol.30, n.56, pp.151-184. ISSN 0121-117X.  https://doi.org/10.15446/ede.v30n56.77580.

An agricultural production index for each of the municipalities in Antioquia, Colombia was developed by using the techniques of principal components and some variables which were obtained from the municipalities' annexes in the 2014 National Census of Agriculture. Through this index a score is obtained which shows the relative position of agricultural activities in each municipality when compared to the average for Antioquia, from which, it is possible to define three categories for the municipalities: agricultural, impoverished agricultural and not agricultural. This classification allows the conclusion that Antioquia has few agricultural municipalities and the result serves to guide programs for family farming in those regions with greatest potential for agriculture even though the possibility of consolidating said programs is limited.
