Introduction.
The nursing care process, with its standardized language, facilitates communication among nursing staff and the development of activities that improve the quality of care through its structure and scientific basis.
Objective.
To determine the prevalence of diagnoses, outcomes, and nursing interventions in patients with acute decompensated heart failure treated in a specialized cardiovascular center.
Methods.
A prospective cohort based on the Institutional Acute Decompensated Heart Failure Registry of a health institution with a cardiovascular focus was conducted. A descriptive analysis was made of sociodemographic and clinical characteristics and the most prevalent diagnoses, outcomes, and nursing interventions.
Results.
Of the 1397 patients with a median age of 67 years, 69.22% were men, with a median ejection fraction of 30%, and 58.77% had a functional class III-IV. The most prevalent diagnoses, outcomes, and nursing interventions were Deficient knowledge [00126] at 24.05%, Knowledge of disease control [1830] at 22.98%, and Teaching: disease process [5602] at 31.16%, respectively.
Conclusion.
This study identified the most prevalent diagnoses, outcomes, and interventions related to patient education in heart failure units, highlighting the importance of the nurse's role in improving knowledge about the disease process to promote self-care practices that possibly impact the quality of life.
