The editors of Revista Colombiana de Obstetricia y Ginecología (RCOG) are pleased to inform the members of the Colombian Federation of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Fecolsog), the physicians of our specialty, the healthcare staff working in the area of women’s sexual and reproductive health, and the authors of this country and of the region who have published their studies in RCOG, that the journal has been accepted once again in Medline by the United States Department of Health and Human Services, as of March 2019.

This acceptance did not come about by chance but is rather the result of many years of responsible, top-quality work by the journal’s editorial team. We had submitted applications to Medline twice in the past, first in 2010 and then in 2012. Together with Biomédica, Revista de Salud Pública, Colombia Médica and Revista Colombiana de Psiquiatría, we are now one of the five medical journals indexed in the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM) database. RCOG had been indexed in Medline back in 1965 and 1971.

From the letter of acceptance addressed to RCOG, it is clear that we are expected to continue to meet the NLM quality standards and follow the best publishing practices that have been implemented since the time we accepted the challenge of leading the journal. Retaining this privilege requires more hard work from all the stakeholders: ourselves as editors, in our job of supporting the authors in order to ensure that published studies are useful and meet the expectations of the readers; the authors, who must meet the requirements for initial acceptance of the manuscripts, as well as the international publication standards by type of study design, or RCOG formats for case reports with review of the literature; the leaders of Fecolsog, who will need to secure the necessary resources to maintain a top quality publication; and the Fecolsog members who will realize the importance of supporting the Federation so that it can fulfill the journal’s primary objective, namely, to be the means of dissemination of research and education for our specialists in the country and the region, for the betterment of women’s health in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Finally, we would like to thank the members of the board of directors, the managers who have supported our work over the past few years, the current management, the editorial and scientific committees, the peer reviewers, the authors who have trusted our journal for publishing their studies, and the members of the editorial team for their work, commitment and dedication.

The task ahead of us is as demanding or even more daunting than it was until this acceptance, and it is our commitment to rise to this new challenge.
