Progress and recent novelties of Ingeniería e Investigación Journal

ANDRÉS PAVAS*

* Editor-in-chief Ingeniería e Investigación Journal Assistant Professor with Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá, Colombia

In previous editorial letters, data regarding the Journal positioning, visibility and management have been presented. Regarding positioning in citational databases, in Pavas (2015), a comparison among the results in databases like Scimago Journal Rank (SJR), Journal Citation Report (JCR), and Google Scholar (GS) is shown. In Pavas (2016a), the h5 index of the Colombian engineering journals is highlighted. In terms of the journal's visibility, in Pavas (2016b), indicators up to December 2016 are presented. The editorial team of Ingeniería e Investigación Journal (I&I for their initials in Spanish) wants to share with the authors and readers some of their recent results.

Firstly, we are pleased to say that the Ingeniería e Investigación Journal has improved its positioning in all the worldwide most recognised citational databases. Table 1 shows the results on the CiteScore indicator from Scopus (it measures the citation average per document from a three-year observation window), as well as on the SJR indicator from Scimago Journal Rank, on the JCR indicator from Thomson Reuters (currently Clarivate Analytics), on the Scientific Electronic Library Online SciELO (calculated over three years) and on the h5 indicator from Google Scholar (based on the h index proposed by Hirsch (2005), and calculated from a five-year observation window).

Regarding visibility, in Pavas (2016b), the downloads of articles from I&I are shown in the highly consulted sites in the region. As it was presented in that editorial note, the article download counts are an indicative reference but do not integrally assess the articles visibility. However, the readers can estimate, from the data, the interest raised in the international community, by the works published in the I&I Journal. Table 2 shows the download amounts in the Open Journal Systems - OJS from the Journal Portal at Universidad Nacional de Colombia, as well as in the Red de Revistas Científicas de América Latina y el Caribe, España y Portugal - Redalyc, and in the Scientific Electronic Library Online - SciELO. Table 2 shows an update on the data presented in Pavas (2016b), including the complete data for 2016.

The data presented in this editorial letter were retrieved from the sources available through the Sistema Nacional de Bibliotecas Universidad Nacional de Colombia - SINAB, on 20th July, 2017.

The Engineering and Research Journal keeps working actively on the continuous improvement and development of the added value for the journal’s authors and readers. From 2016, and during 2017, we have made adjustments to the editorial management process that have notably reduced the response time to authors.

The Universidad Nacional de Colombia has been continuously committed to support the scientific knowledge publication and dissemination through an array of journals. The Ingeniería e Investigación Journal shows this advances as an answer to the confidence entrusted the Engineering Faculty and the University on the Editorial Board.

This new issue of the I&I Journal presents a selection of fifteen scientific articles. We hope that these works show perspectives of the current progress in the field of Engineering and that they are greatly useful for our readers. We thank once again to the authors, reviewers and readers for making it possible for the Engineering and Research Journal to be one of the best scientific journals in Colombia.
