EDITORIAL

The Editorial Centre, Faculty of Agronomy of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia continues encouraging the publication of scientific knowledge derived from research in tropical agriculture by the government and the private sector, our interest is other than to improve the dissemination and the quality of these research products for use by the scientific, academic and agricultural producers. As such, the journal seeks to optimize Agronomia Colombiana international visibility by presenting all content in English is expected that this strategy can generate the option to enter a Journal Citation Reports, as well as bibliographic indexes strict selection committees and measurement of factors bibliographic and ISI and Scopus databases senior international references.

In this issue of Agronomia Colombiana presented to the scientific community and others involved in agricultural science and technology, reports in the area of plant breeding, genetic resources and molecular biology: a better knowledge of the genomic profile in elite genotypes blackberry (Rubus glaucus Benth.), evaluation of a reference collection of Andean bean genotypes for selection of drought adaptation in Colombia and a review of the strategy of plant defense against viral infections with the application on cassava, the application of this research can support to the breeding programs of high value cultivars for food security and human nutrition.

In the subject area of crop physiology, we evaluated the practice of pruning grapes to improve production and quality of grapes (Vitis vinifera L.) vineyards in the tropical high, while in the lowland tropics was investigated on the performance and oil quality from Ricinus communis L., likewise, is a review about the importance of nickel in the physiology, nutrition and plant metabolism, knowledge that in most crops is limited, even though the was considered essential element in plant nutrition from the 80 in the twentieth century.

In crop protection section discusses the infection process of plant pathogen Plasmodiophora brassicae in cabbage (Brassica oleraceae L.), timely information as the literature on the disease and its effect is quite small. On the subject of physiology and postharvest technology presents the physicochemical changes of lulo fruit under different conditions of storage, results allow to recommend a heat shock before cooling to increase by 10 days the life of the fruits of lulus. Furthermore, we examined the behavior for industrial processing of multiple genotypes of native potato (Solanum tuberosum Group Phureja) grown in three locations in altitude cold: it is reported that the town affects the quality of the tubers and the type of process to make.

As a contribution to agricultural development in native savannas of the Colombian Llanos Orientales (very similar to soils of other American plains), the section on soil fertility and water management, brings advances in knowledge about the use of variability hydrodynamic parameter space to identify the behavior of water in the soil, to facilitate decision making of the work of irrigation according to water deficit. In another report, it was determined that, in characterizing the spatial variability of soil, achieved a better understanding of the relationships between soil characteristics and the environment. In turn, as to any other crop that has become very important in the Colombian Llanos foothills, the association was established corn hybrid Brachiaria Mulato grass, Brachiaria brizantha cv. Toledo and B. decumbens degraded pastures to renew: to analyze the effect of nitrogen on the association encotró in the grain filling stage of maize, the leaf N is independent of the associated grass. This section closes with a reflection on the urgency of determining the water use by crops hydrological, climatic zoning and management of water resources issues that are of great importance to the climatic condition of the Colombian coffee zone.

Finally, in the section on economics and rural development monograph of this issue examines significant contributions to a broad and diverse understanding of rural development. Items include strategic issues analyzed from regional experiences: the countryside as a source of territorial development, agribusiness model with a territorial approach, biofuels and their impact on field development, etc., and specific approaches applied to the department of Caldas and Nariño.

It is hoped that the extensive and eclectic contents of this issue of Agronomia Colombiana, quality and relevance of published scientific articles are very useful for the reading audience and this results in an approach to the large number of national and international authors on issues of tropical agriculture. The Editorial Centre will be ready to implement strategies that lead to the production of scientific publications that reach more impact in the scientific community, academia and the productive sector in Latin America.
