The landscape of academic publishing is marked by a diverse array of journals, each with its distinct scope, focus, reach and impact. In the pursuit of disseminating research findings, contributing to the collective body of knowledge and gain recognition, researchers are confronted with the pivotal decision of where to publish their work. While international journals attract attention for their global reach, legibility and impact factor, the significance of prioritizing publication in local journals need not be underestimated. This document aims to underscore the importance of embracing local journals as a priority in the realm of scholarly dissemination, emphasizing their unique contributions to scientific advancement, community engagement, and the holistic progression of research endeavors.

Local journals, often closely aligned with the academic and cultural contexts of their respective regions, possess an inherent capacity to encapsulate the nuances and intricacies of local research landscapes, particularly in areas like public health where cultural, geographic and societal contexts can be directly related to the topic under study. Therefore, they serve as conduits for spotlighting research that resonates with the specific needs, challenges, and opportunities encountered within the researcher's own community. By prioritizing publication in local journals, researchers empower themselves to address pressing issues that hold immediate relevance to the constituents of their region. This alignment enhances the potential for meaningful impact and fosters research that contributes directly to the well-being and advancement of local societies.

Furthermore, the act of publishing in local journals promotes a symbiotic relationship between researchers and the communities they serve. It bridges the divide between academia and practice, translating scholarly insights into actionable knowledge that can positively influence policy, industry, and public awareness. The close proximity of local journals to the heart of local concerns facilitates the seamless dissemination of research outcomes to stakeholders who stand to benefit most directly. This engagement nurtures a culture of collaboration, allowing researchers to harness local expertise, refine methodologies through on-the-ground insights, and iteratively improve the solutions they propose.

In addition to their community-oriented focus, local journals offer an avenue for early-career researchers and scholars to establish a foundation for their academic trajectory. By publishing in local journals, aspiring researchers can garner essential experience in navigating the peer-review process, honing their communication skills, and refining their research methodologies. This also serves as a stepping stone towards building a robust academic portfolio and gaining recognition within their immediate academic milieu becoming a mandatory option for academic actors. As these researchers mature in their careers, the accumulated experience gained from local journal publications equips them with a robust skill set that transcends disciplinary boundaries.

It is imperative to recognize that the impact of research extends beyond the confines of global visibility metrics. While international journals often wield substantial reach, local journals possess a distinct vantage point that champions research that may otherwise remain overshadowed. The collective body of knowledge is enriched by the diversity of perspectives, challenges, and solutions that emanate from different corners of the academic world. By prioritizing publication in local journals, researchers contribute to a more inclusive and comprehensive representation of research achievements across various geographic, cultural, and scientific domains.

In consequence, the act of publishing in local journals is a practice that merits both attention and endorsement within the academic community. By doing so, researchers embrace the opportunity to amplify local voices, strengthen community ties, and foster a holistic approach to knowledge dissemination. The impact of local research needs to transcend numerical metrics, from the unique perspective of the recognition of the researchers, and step forward in the way to strengthen local journals and make them competitive and attractive. As the academic landscape continues to evolve, embracing the significance of local journals stands as an embodiment of scholarly responsibility and a testament to the profound impact that research can wield at every level of society.
