Editorial

It is a pleasure to announce that La Revista de Ingeniería de la Universidad de Medellín has reached its number 20 issue. This is a very special occasion for us since we are celebrating our 10th anniversary. Over the past decade we have experienced a substantial expansion and an increasing visibility in both the local and regional engineering community. We are now accepted as one of the major journals in Colombia for communicating scientific achievements and frontier ideas in engineering.

We have presence in twelve online databases in Latin America, The United States, The United Kingdom, Spain and Portugal. Additionally, we are approaching the highest category in editorial quality as evaluated by the Colombian Science and Technology System.

The editorial board is pleased to celebrate with all members of this growing community these rewarding accomplishments and would like to thank their constant effort and commitment to share with us important scientific findings. Due to the continued thrust and support of the community we are now leading the Colombian Network of Engineering Journals. Through the network we are committed to the acceptance of writing and editing as professional careers in Colombia. Also, we are devoted to providing the general public with a journal responding to our major social issues.

Without any doubt our main challenge from now on is to keep providing a place where Colombians and Latin Americans approach to addressing some of the major development issues in a framework of pertinence, academic excellence and ethics.

Herein we present 19 peer reviewed articles that reflect the commitment of our reviewers. We hope you find them interesting and useful.
