Año nuevo, revista nueva y el bicentenario de Barranquilla. En esta ocasión, el equipo editorial de Memorias, ante la acumulación de trabajos evaluados positivamente, decidimos sacar un número de temática libre. Una amplia variedad de investigaciones y un abanico de autores del gran Caribe. Los temas van desde las pequeñas Antillas de Trinidad y Tobago, a la multiculturalidad pensada por un alemán en South- Florida, pasando una parte de la historia política de Puerto Rico y llegando al archipiélago de Las Perlas de Panamá. De nuestro Caribe, lectores y artesanos, y por estar en ese ilusionante y actual proceso de paz, una mirada a las relaciones externas de la insurgencia por Centro América y el Caribe. Como un... melting pot.

Del mismo modo, en ocasión del bicentenario oficial de la ciudad de Barranquilla y continuando con la memoria visual de los grupos de inmigrantes que entre finales de siglo XIX y principios del XX llegaron a nuestras costas, en esta edición abrimos un espacio a la comunidad alemana. Y como una novedad, en relación a la historia de la ciudad, el equipo decidió empezar a publicar las descripciones y crónicas que políticos, viajeros, misioneros, educadores criollos y extranjeros dejaron a su paso por Barranquilla. En este número, tres interesantes testimonios del siglo XIX.

New year... new edition and Barranquilla's Bicentennial. On this occasion, the journal's editorial team has decided, in the midst of an array of positively peer-reviewed academic articles, to publish this edition without any specific or common topic. We hereby present a wide and rich variety of researches and authors from the Greater Caribbean Region. Topics covered in this edition range from Trinidad and Tobago in the Lesser Antilles to multiculturalism thought by a German in South Florida, and from an episode of Puerto Rico's political history to the Archipelago de Las Perlas in Panama. From our Caribbean we highlight readers and artisans, and because we are currently immersed in an encouraging peace process, we present an article about the foreign relations of an insurgent group in Central America and the Caribbean. The above like a melting pot.

On this manner and in line with the Bicentennial of the city of Barranquilla and the series of visual memory that we have been publishing about the different groups of immigrants that arrived to this cost during the nineteenth century, we highlight in this edition the German community. And as a matter of innovation, in accordance with the history of the city, we have begun to publish the descriptions and chronicles of politicians, travelers, missioners, and professors, both foreign and local, which were written during their trips across the region. In this occasion, we publish three interesting testimonies of the nineteenth century.
