Scientific journal editors in Latin America, unlike those in the United States or Europe, need to ensure the quality of published contents, find peer reviewers who can speak several languages, patiently wait for reviews, and reconsider their differences in quality. On top of that, we are responsible for the editorial production, ensuring an appropriate writing style in English, Portuguese and Spanish, reviewing proofs, submitting the journal to national, regional and international databases (catalogues, databases and citation indexes); that way, we are responsible for the entire communication dynamics of the journals - web accessibility, information deliveries to readers, researchers, and peer reviewers. As Latin American editors, we must seek financial, human, and technological resources, in order to keep a journal going and to present it to non-expert audiences.

However, this activity has limits, especially when it comes to journal article citations, since the editor and his/her team can create researcher databases, but this does not ensure visibility for our work; it is the researchers and their networks who can ensure that their work is read by their peers. In the end, articles are pieces intended for dialogues amongst peers, and academic appropriation (meaning the inclusion of knowledge in colleagues' discourses or any criticism stemming from it) depends on scientific communities, and citation is an indication of the consumption made by these communities.

This editorial intends to invite our authors to divulge their papers in their networks, to dialogue with their readers, and to create incentives for using their documents that we publish here in Diversitas.
