The objective of this research was to develop an allometric equation for the species Alnus acuminata in order to calculate TH from the diameter at breast height (DBH). At the Obonuco-AGROSAVIA Research Center in Pasto (Nariño), dasometric information was recorded for 75 months for 200 even-aged trees. Four models were evaluated: linear, polynomial, Mixed linear (random effect per tree age), and Mixed linear (random effect per tree). For the selection of the best model, the criteria were used with the lowest values &#8203;&#8203;of Akaike (AIC) and Bayesian (BIC). The information was analyzed using the "Nonlinear Mixed-Effects Models" package, R software. The results revealed that A. acuminata had an 81% survival; the TH average was 7.4 ± 1.3 m; and the average DBH was 9.51 ± 2.23cm. The average annual increase of DBH was 1.5 cm year-1, and the TH was 1.18 m&#8729; per year-1. The mixed linear model confirmed the assumptions of normality, independence, and homogeneity of variances in addition of having good criteria in its predictive performance and efficiency through the equation TH=2.07+0.35*DBH+0.95*Age. This research contributes to the management of native species of the high tropics by designing an equation for the first vegetative growth phases of A. acuminata in high mountain agroecological zones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN La complejidad en el manejo de herramientas de campo para el registro de información dasométrica ha conllevado al uso de ecuaciones alométricas que ahorran tiempo, trabajo y costos, permitiendo estimar variables de difícil registro como altura total (HT). El objetivo de esta investigación fue elaborar una ecuación alométrica para la especie Alnus acuminata, con el fin de calcular HT a partir del diámetro a la altura del pecho (DAP). En el Centro de Investigación Obonuco-Agrosavia en Pasto (Nariño), se registró información dasométrica durante 75 meses a 200 árboles coetáneos. Se evaluaron cuatro modelos: regresión lineal, polinómico, Lineal mixto (efecto aleatorio por árbol) y Lineal mixto (efecto aleatorio por edad del árbol). Para la selección del mejor modelo se utilizaron los criterios con los valores más bajos de Akaike (AIC) y Bayesiano (BIC). La información se analizó mediante el paquete &#8220;Nonlinear Mixed-Effects Models&#8221; software R. A acuminata presentó 81 % de sobrevivencia, la HT media fue de 7.40 ± 1.30 m, se obtuvo un DAP promedio de 9.51 ± 2.23 cm. El Incremento Medio Anual de DAP fue 1.50 cm año-1, y la HT de 1.18 m&#8729;año-1. El modelo lineal mixto cumplió los supuestos de normalidad, independencia y homogeneidad de varianzas, además tuvo buenos criterios en su desempeño predictivo y eficiencia mediante la ecuación HT=2.07+0,35*DAP+0,95*Edad. Esta investigación contribuye al manejo de especies nativas del trópico alto mediante el diseño de una ecuación para las primeras fases vegetativas de crecimiento de A. acuminata en zonas agroecológica de alta montaña.]]></p></abstract>
