Several speleothems are undoubtedly among the remarkable features of this cavity; for instance, columns, stalactites, stalagmites and fallen blocks. Speleothems contain important evidence of palaeoclimatic information, which can be interpreted through integral petrographical and geochemical analysis. A detailed characterization of stalagmite internal microstratigraphy was carried out. Besides, due to the monotonous carbonate lithology of the region, speleothems are essentially composed of calcite. The results of this research work include the development of capabilities and the production of a map of the karstic system that indicates the origin of the cave, and the most relevant features and facts within it. This cavity represents an important component of the existing geoheritage in the territory that remains hidden without identification and evaluation.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El presente estudio aborda el uso de espeleotemas de la cueva &#8220;Doña Lucrecia&#8221;, Rionegro, Santander (Colombia), como aproximación preliminar para el registro paleoclimático. Sin duda, varios espeleotemas se encuentran entre las características notables de esta cavidad, tales como columnas, estalactitas, estalagmitas y bloques caídos. Los espeleotemas contienen evidencias importantes sobre información paleoclimática, que pueden ser interpretadas a través del análisis petrográfico y geoquímico integral. Realizamos una caracterización detallada de la microestratigrafía interna de estalagmitas. Debido a la monótona litología de carbonatos de la región, los espeleotemas están compuestos esencialmente por calcita. Los resultados de este trabajo de investigación incluyen el desarrollo de capacidades y la producción de un mapa del sistema kárstico que indica el origen de la cueva y las características y hechos más relevantes dentro de ella. Esta cavidad representa un elemento importante del patrimonio geológico presente en el territorio, y que permanece oculto sin identificarse y sin valorar.]]></p></abstract>
