<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0120-02832025000300055&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0120-02832025000300055&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0120-02832025000300055&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Los minerales del grupo de la variscita constituyen una familia poco común, conocida por su tonalidad verde cian, muy apreciada en joyería, y su importancia arqueológica como gema ornamental en artefactos y adornos antiguos confeccionados en distintas partes del mundo, utilizados como fuente de intercambio y comercio en la Europa prehistórica. Esta pertenece principalmente a la subclase de fosfatos, pero también a los arseniatos, vanadatos y selenatos. En este estudio se caracterizaron petrológicamente seis muestras de variscita encontradas como mineralizaciones en arenitas hacia el tope del Grupo Guadalupe (Formación Labor y Tierna), en las inmediaciones del cuerpo hipoabisal de Iza, en el municipio homónimo en Boyacá, Colombia. Se emplearon técnicas de observación macroscópica, microscopio óptico de luz polarizada plana (MOLPP), análisis mediante difracción de rayos X (DRX) y fluorescencia de rayos X (FRX), espectroscopia Raman y espectroscopia infrarroja por reflectancia en el rango de onda corta (SWIR) y visible a infrarrojo cercano (VNIR). Los resultados confirman la presencia de este mineral y destacan la importancia de una fuente de fósforo y aluminio en su génesis como mineral secundario; se interpreta como el producto de la infiltración de aguas meteóricas ácidas a través de rocas fosfáticas comunes dentro del Grupo Guadalupe, combinado con condiciones diagenéticas de temperatura específicas; con esto se propone un modelo genético y la posible aplicación de estos minerales como geotermómetro en rocas sedimentarias. Además, se destaca la relación de estos minerales con el cuerpo hipoabisal de Iza y su posible relación con los yacimientos arqueológicos de los pueblos nativos prehispánicos que habitaban el altiplano cundiboyacense y Colombia. Este primer reporte en los Andes colombianos es un precedente en el establecimiento de nuevas fuentes de origen de variscita en Colombia, posiblemente usada en rutas de comercio prehispánicas y como fuente de materias primas para la confección de joyas antiguas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The minerals of the variscite group constitute a rare family, known for their cyan-green hue, highly valued in jewellery, and their archaeological importance as ornamental gemstones in ancient artifacts and ornaments made in different parts of the world, used as a source of exchange and trade in prehistoric Europe. These belong mainly to the subclass of phosphates, but also to arsenates, vanadates, and selenates. In this study we characterized petrologically six samples of variscite found as mineralizations within arenites towards the top of the Guadalupe Group (Labor and Tierna Formation), in the vicinity of the hypabyssal body of Iza in the municipality of the same name in Boyacá, Colombia. Macroscopic observation, Plane Polarized Light Microscopy (PPLM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analysis, Raman spectroscopy and reflectance infrared spectroscopy in Short-wave (SWIR) to visible and near-infrared (VNIR) range were utilized. The results confirm the presence of these minerals and highlight the importance of a source of phosphorus and aluminium in their genesis as secondary minerals, interpreted as the product of infiltration of acidic meteoric waters through common phosphate rocks within the Guadalupe Group, combined with specific diagenetic conditions of pressure and temperature. Thus, a genetic model and the possible application of these minerals as geothermometers in sedimentary rocks are proposed. Furthermore, the relationship of these minerals with the hypabyssal body of Iza is highlighted, as well as their possible connection with archaeological sites of pre-Hispanic native peoples inhabiting the Cundinamarca highlands and Colombia. This first report in the Colombian Andes sets a precedent in establishing new sources of origin for variscite in Colombia, possibly used in pre-Hispanic trade routes and as a source of raw materials for the making of ancient jewellery.]]></p></abstract>
