Estimativa da área foliar é uma importante observação biométrica a ser feita para comparar o crescimento das plantas. Neste estudo, um modelo de cálculo da área foliar foi desenvolvido para Combretum leprosum, utilizando medidas lineares de comprimento de folha (C) e a largura máxima (L), com o objetivo de obter uma equação através de parâmetros lineares dimensionais das folhas. Foram coletados 200 limbos foliares de uma população de C. leprosus nativa em uma área conservada de Caatinga dentro do campus da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi árido em Mossoró, Rio Grande do Norte. As folhas foram obtidas de indivíduos adultos e a área das folhas foi determinada através de um integrador de área foliar (LI-3100, LI-COR). A analise de variância da regressão foi feita no programa SAEG. As equações lineares simples, exponenciais e geométricas obtidas podem ser usadas para estimação da área foliar de C. leprosum. Do ponto de vista prático, sugere-se optar pela equação linear simples que envolve o produto C x L, usando-se a equação de regressão A = 0.7103 x (C x L), que equivale a tomar 71.03% do produto entre o comprimento ao longo da nervura principal e a largura máxima, com um coeficiente de determinação (R²) de 0.952617.]]></p></abstract>

En este estudio se desarrolló un modelo para el cálculo de área foliar de Combretum leprosum usando mediciones lineales de longitud (C) y ancho máximo (L) de la hoja. Se recolectaron 200 láminas de hojas de una población de C. leprosum nativo en un área de conservación de la Caatinga en el campus de la Universidad Federal Rural de la Semi árido en Mossoro, Rio Grande do Norte. Las hojas se obtuvieron de árboles adultos y el área foliar se midió utilizando un integrador (LI-3100, LI-COR). El análisis de regresión se hizo con el programa SAEG. Estimating the leaf area is an important remark to be made biometric to compare the growth of plants. In this study, a model for calculating leaf area was developed for Combretum leprosum using linear measurements of leaf length (C) and maximum width (L), in order to obtain an equation by the linear dimensions of the leaf. It was collected 200 leaf blades of a population of C. leprosum native in a conservation area of Caatinga in the campus of the Federal Rural University of the Semi Arid in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte. The leaves were obtained from adults and leaf area was measured using an integrator leaf area (LI-3100, LI-COR). The analysis of variance of the regression was made in the program SAEG. The linear and geometric equations can be used to estimate leaf area of C. leprosum. From a practical standpoint, it is suggested to opt for the simple linear equation involving the C x L, using the regression equation A = 0.7103 x (C x L), which is equivalent to taking 71.03% of product of the length along the midrib and the maximum width, with a coefficient of determination of 0.952617.]]></p></abstract>

A import&acirc;ncia da vegeta&ccedil;&atilde;o desta regi&atilde;o &eacute; indiscut&iacute;vel, devido a sua multiplicidade de usos, tais como energ&eacute;tico, forrageiro, alimentar, medicinal e madeireiro, assim como, para o fornecimento de servi&ccedil;os ambientais. A esp&eacute;cie <i>Combretum leprosum</i> Mart. e Eicher (Combretaceae) &eacute; ainda freqüente nesse bioma (Maia, 2004).</p>     <p>A esp&eacute;cie &eacute; neotropical com distribui&ccedil;&atilde;o exclusiva na Am&eacute;rica do Sul, com registro para a Bol&iacute;via, Paraguai e Brasil (Exell, 1953). No Brasil, de acordo com Loiola e Sales (1996), as popula&ccedil;&otilde;es de <i>C. leprosum</i> ocorrem principalmente nas regi&otilde;es Nordeste (Cear&aacute;, Maranh&atilde;o, Pernambuco, Piau&iacute; e Rio Grande do Norte), Norte (Par&aacute;), Centro-Oeste (Goi&aacute;s, Mato Grosso e Mato Grosso do Sul) e Sudeste (Minas Gerais).</p>     <p>Conhecida popularmente pelos nomes de mofumbo, cipoaba e carne-de-vaca, a esp&eacute;cie &eacute; utilizada como planta medicinal com fun&ccedil;&atilde;o cicatrizante, na preven&ccedil;&atilde;o de irrita&ccedil;&otilde;es cut&acirc;neas e na limpeza de feridas, na conten&ccedil;&atilde;o de hemorragias, como sedativo (Pietrovski <i>et al</i>., 2006), antituss&iacute;geno e expectorante (Agra <i>et al</i>., 2007), antinociceptiva (Lopes <i>et al</i>., 2010), contra promastigotes de <i>L. amazonensis</i>, podendo ser utilizados como ferramentas no estudo de novas drogas leishmanicidas (Teles <i>et al</i>., 2011). O extrato etan&oacute;lico das cascas possui atividade gastroprotetora e anti-ulcerog&ecirc;nica (Nunes <i>et al</i>., 2009) e o das flores &eacute; antinociceptivo (Pietrovski <i>et al</i>., 2006). O extrato etan&oacute;lico das ra&iacute;zes secas apresenta 65% de acido arjunoico com atividades antiinflamat&oacute;ria, antinociceptiva e anticolinester&aacute;sicas descortinando uma nova classe de produtos naturais no tratamento da doen&ccedil;a de Alzheimer atrav&eacute;s de drogas multi-funcionais (Facundo <i>et al</i>., 2005).</p>     <p>Considerando-se a import&acirc;ncia dessa esp&eacute;cie, h&aacute; necessidade de estudos b&aacute;sicos envolvendo aspectos relacionados &agrave; propaga&ccedil;&atilde;o, crescimento e desenvolvimento. Na maioria desses estudos, o conhecimento da &aacute;rea foliar &eacute; fundamental, e, talvez, o mais importante par&acirc;metro na avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o do crescimento vegetal. Essa &eacute; uma das caracter&iacute;sticas mais dif&iacute;ceis de ser mensurada porque, normalmente, requer equipamentos caros ou t&eacute;cnicas destrutivas (Taiz e Zaiger, 2004).</p>     <p>Existem v&aacute;rios m&eacute;todos para se medir com boa precis&atilde;o a &aacute;rea foliar, sendo classificados em destrutivos e n&atilde;o-destrutivos, diretos ou indiretos (Marshall, 1968). A import&acirc;ncia de utilizar um m&eacute;todo n&atilde;odestrutivo &eacute; que ele permite acompanhar o crescimento e a expans&atilde;o foliar da mesma planta at&eacute; o final do ciclo ou do ensaio, al&eacute;m de ser r&aacute;pido e preciso. Assim, a &aacute;rea foliar pode ser estimada utilizando par&acirc;metros dimensionais de folhas, os quais apresentam boas correla&ccedil;&otilde;es com a superf&iacute;cie foliar. Um dos m&eacute;todos n&atilde;o-destrutivos mais utilizados &eacute; a estimativa da &aacute;rea foliar por meio de equa&ccedil;&otilde;es de regress&atilde;o entre a &aacute;rea foliar real e par&acirc;metros dimensionais lineares das folhas. Esse m&eacute;todo j&aacute; foi usado com sucesso para outras esp&eacute;cies na caatinga (Lima <i>et al</i>. 2008; Silva <i>et al</i>., 2007; Pinto <i>et al</i>., 2007; Maracaj&aacute; <i>et al</i>., 2008). Portanto, o objetivo do presente trabalho foi obter uma equa&ccedil;&atilde;o atrav&eacute;s de par&acirc;metros lineares dimensionais das folhas que permita a estimativa da &aacute;rea foliar de <i>Combretum leprosum</i> Mart.</p>     <p><b>    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<center><font face="verdana" size="3">Material e m&eacute;todos</font></center></b></p>     <p>O trabalho foi realizado no Laborat&oacute;rio de Irriga&ccedil;&atilde;o e Drenagem do Departamento de Ci&ecirc;ncias Vegetais da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi &Aacute;rido (UFERSA), localizada nas coordenadas geogr&aacute;ficas de 5&deg; 11' 31&#34; de latitude sul e 37&deg; 20' 40&#34; de longitude oeste de Greenwich, com altitude m&eacute;dia de 18 m. O clima da regi&atilde;o, na classifica&ccedil;&atilde;o de K&#246;eppen, &eacute; do tipo BSwh', (quente e seco), com precipita&ccedil;&atilde;o pluviom&eacute;trica bastante irregular, m&eacute;dia anual de 673.9 mm (Agritempo, 2013). O regime t&eacute;rmico da regi&atilde;o &eacute; caracterizado, basicamente, por temperaturas elevadas e amplitudes t&eacute;rmicas reduzidas. A temperatura m&eacute;dia anual gira em torno de 27 &deg;C, onde julho representa o m&ecirc;s mais frio, com m&eacute;dia de 26.5 &deg;C. As temperaturas m&aacute;ximas e m&iacute;nimas do ar t&ecirc;m valores m&eacute;dios iguais a 33.3 &deg;C e 22.7 &deg;C, respectivamente (Rocha, 2011).</p>     <p>Foram coletados 200 limbos foliares de uma popula&ccedil;&atilde;o de <i>C. leprosus</i> nativa em uma &aacute;rea conservada de Caatinga dentro do campus da Universidade Federal Rural do Semi &aacute;rido-UFERSA. Foram amostradas dez folhas de diferentes plantas, as quais eram levadas ao laborat&oacute;rio para determina&ccedil;&atilde;o do comprimento do limbo foliar ao longo da nervura principal (<i>C</i>) e da largura m&aacute;xima do limbo foliar (<i>L</i>) perpendicular &agrave; nervura principal. A seguir, suas &aacute;reas foliares reais foram determinadas com a utiliza&ccedil;&atilde;o do aparelho Portable Area Meter Licor Mod. L1 – 3000.</p>     <p>Para escolha de uma equa&ccedil;&atilde;o que pudesse representar a &aacute;rea foliar em fun&ccedil;&atilde;o das dimens&otilde;es dos limbos foliares, procederam-se estudos de regress&atilde;o, utilizando os seguintes modelos estat&iacute;sticos: linear <i>Y</i> = <i>a</i> + <i>bx</i>; linear simples <i>Y = bx</i> (cuja reta passa pela origem), geom&eacute;trico <i>Y = a x<sup>b</sup></i> e exponencial <i>Y = ab<sup>x</sup></i>. O valor <i>Y</i> estimou a &aacute;rea do limbo foliar em fun&ccedil;&atilde;o de <i>x</i>, cujos valores podem ser o comprimento (<i>C</i>), a largura (<i>L</i>) ou o produto (<i>C*L</i>). As melhores equa&ccedil;&otilde;es foram escolhidas por crit&eacute;rios objetivos, como o coeficiente de determina&ccedil;&atilde;o mais alto e pelo menor erro padr&atilde;o. Considerou-se tamb&eacute;m a facilidade para obten&ccedil;&atilde;o das medidas</p>     <p><b>    <center><font face="verdana" size="3">Resultados e discuss&atilde;o</font></center></b></p>     <p>Os limbos foliares de <i>C. leprosum</i> apresentaram comprimento m&eacute;dio de 12.36cm, largura de 7.8cm e &aacute;rea foliar de 71.15 cm<sup>2</sup> (<a href="img/revistas/acag/v62n1/v62n1a06t1.jpg" target="blank">Tabela 1</a>). A caracteriza&ccedil;&atilde;o da amostra de folhas da &aacute;rea foliar real e estimada encontra-se na <a href="img/revistas/acag/v62n1/v62n1a06t2.jpg" target="blank">Tabela 2</a>. A &aacute;rea foliar m&eacute;dia estimada variou entre 5.7 a 121.9 cm<sup>2</sup>. Nesta Tabela as m&eacute;dias das &aacute;reas estimadas s&atilde;o semelhantes ou muito pr&oacute;ximas das &aacute;reas reais quando as equa&ccedil;&otilde;es s&atilde;o lineares, indicando que estas equa&ccedil;&otilde;es de regress&atilde;o propostas s&atilde;o excelentes estimadoras de &aacute;rea foliar para <i>C. leprosum</i>.</p>     <p>Os resultados da an&aacute;lise de regress&atilde;o relacionando a &aacute;rea foliar real (<i>A</i>) e as medidas lineares de comprimento (<i>C</i>), largura (<i>L</i>) e o produto do comprimento pela largura da folha (<i>C*L</i>), s&atilde;o apresentados na <a href="img/revistas/acag/v62n1/v62n1a06t3.jpg" target="blank">Tabela 3</a>. Todas as equa&ccedil;&otilde;es apresentadas permitiram obter estimativas satisfat&oacute;rias da &aacute;rea foliar, com coeficientes de determina&ccedil;&atilde;o (R<sup>2</sup>) acima de 0.70, indicando que 70% das varia&ccedil;&otilde;es observadas na &aacute;rea foliar foram explicadas pelas equa&ccedil;&otilde;es obtidas.</p>     <p>O valor de R<sup>2</sup> variou de 0.71 a 0.95, sendo o de menor valor correspondente aos modelos linear e geom&eacute;trico em que se utilizou o comprimento da folha, como base de c&aacute;lculo para estimativa da &aacute;rea foliar individual de folhas de <i>C. leprosum</i>, enquanto o maior valor de R<sup>2</sup> foi obtido com os dados do produto do comprimento pela largura da folha (0.95), multiplicado pelo fator de ajuste (Tabela 3).</p>     <p>Deve-se ressaltar que houve uma pequena dispers&atilde;o dos dados em rela&ccedil;&atilde;o &agrave; reta obtida, sugerindo que a equa&ccedil;&atilde;o <i>A = 0.7103*C*L</i> pode representar a &aacute;rea foliar real satisfatoriamente (<a href="#Figura 1">Figura 1</a>) o que, do ponto de vista pr&aacute;tico, seria a mais recomend&aacute;vel. Modelos semelhantes foram obtidos para estimar a &aacute;rea foliar de <i>Manihot pseudoglaziovvi</i> e <i>Manihot piauhyensis</i>- mani&ccedil;oba (<i>Af = 0.533*C*L</i>) por Pinto <i>et al</i>. (2007), <i>Ageratum conyzoides</i> (<i>Af = 0.6789*C*L</i>) por Bianco <i>et al</i>. (2008), <i>Ziziphus joazeiro</i> (<i>Af = 0.7931*C*L</i>) por Maracaja <i>et al</i>. (2008), Rosa hybr. (<i>Af = 0.56 + 0.717 *C*L</i>) por Fascella <i>et al</i>. (2013). Por outro lado Kumar (2009) verificou que o melhor modelo foi o exponencial (<i>A = 191.33e<sup>(L)0.0037</sup></i>) para avaliar a &aacute;rea foliar de <i>Crocus sativus</i> L.</p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>    <center><a name="Figura 1"><img src="img/revistas/acag/v62n1/v62n1a06f1.jpg"></a></center></p>     <p>Nas esp&eacute;cies florestais da caatinga <i>Amburana cearensis</i> -Cumaru, <i>Caesalpinia ferrea</i> Mart -Juc&aacute;, <i>Caesalpinia pyramidalis</i> -Catingueira, <i>Schinopsis brasiliensis</i> -Bra&uacute;na e <i>Tabebuia aurea</i> –Craibeira, Souza Neto (2009) verificou que as regress&otilde;es linear e potencial demonstram que existe uma estreita correla&ccedil;&atilde;o entre a &aacute;rea foliar e as dimens&otilde;es lineares dos fol&iacute;olos de todas as esp&eacute;cies estudadas. A utiliza&ccedil;&atilde;o das dimens&otilde;es lineares, comprimento e largura, proporcionou uma estimativa tamb&eacute;m satisfat&oacute;ria para a aceroleira (R<sup>2</sup> = 0.91) conforme verificaram Lucena <i>et. al</i>. (2011) e para as esp&eacute;cies na fase de sementeira <i>Calendula officinalis</i> L., <i>Dahlia pinnata</i> L., <i>Dianthus barbatus</i> L., <i>Pelargonium</i> × <i>hortorum</i>, <i>Petunia</i> × <i>hybrida</i>, e <i>Viola wittrockiana</i> de acordo com Giuffrida <i>et al</i> (2011).</p>     <p><b>    <center><font face="verdana" size="3">Conclus&otilde;es</font></center></b></p> <ul>     <li>As equa&ccedil;&otilde;es lineares que utilizam medidas apenas do comprimento (<i>C</i>) ou da largura (<i>L</i>) podem ser utilizadas para se estimar a &aacute;rea de folhas de <i>C. leprosum</i>. Mas, as estimativas de &aacute;rea de folhas de plantas de <i>C. leprosum</i> s&atilde;o mais precisas quando s&atilde;o usadas ambas as dimens&otilde;es de comprimento e largura do limbo.
