<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0120-28122017000100035&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0120-28122017000100035&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0120-28122017000100035&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The aim of this research was to determine the biodiversity indices and its relation to the carbon content (C) in the above-ground biomass, in the Andean brow forest located in the buffer zone of the Sangay National Park in Ecuador, where twelve permanent sampling plots were established. It was identified 19 species, 18 genuses, and 17 families with a total of 518 individuals from which Melastomataceae is one of the most representative families encompassing the Miconia genus with 159 individuals (30.70%), this information is relevant due this plant group can be utilized as an indicator of the conservation state of these forests in danger of disappearing. The highest concentration of C present in the above-ground biomass is recorded in the Guangra Bajo location (182.24 ton.ha-1), these values are related to the high biodiversity of Shannon species (0.90) and Simpson (0.87), the lowest values of C in the above-ground biomass are presented in the Yunguilla sector (30.56 ton.ha-1), as follows: Shannon (0.89) and Simpson (0.71). Based on the foregoing, the Andean brow forest must be considered as a carbon sink in order to mitigate the effects on climate change, and thus the greatest benefit with regard to the capture of C as an ecosystem service will be obtained. This have allowed the conservation of these resources and the continuous provision of goods and environmental services to the area.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Se desarrolló esta investigación para determinar los índices de biodiversidad y su relación con el contenido de carbono (C) en la biomasa, en el bosque de ceja andina ubicado en la zona de amortiguamiento del parque nacional Sangay-Ecuador, donde se establecieron doce parcelas permanentes de muestreo. Se identificaron 19 especies, 18 géneros y 17 familias con un total de 518 individuos de los cuales Melastomataceae es una de las familias más representativa que abarca al género Miconia con 159 individuos (30.70 %), esta información es relevante debido a que este grupo de plantas pueden ser utilizadas como un indicador del estado de conservación de este tipo de bosques que se encuentran en peligro de desaparecer. La mayor concentración de C presente en la biomasa aérea lo registra la localidad de Guangra Bajo (182.24 ton.ha-1), estos valores están relacionados con la alta biodiversidad de especies Shannon (0.90) y Simpson (0.87), los valores más bajos de C en la biomasa aérea se presentan en el sector Yunguilla (30.56 ton.ha-1) al igual que los índices de biodiversidad: Shannon (0.89) y Simpson (0.71). Por lo anterior el bosque de ceja andina debe ser considerado como sumidero de C con el fin de mitigar los efectos ante el cambio climático y por el cual se obtendrá el mayor beneficio en lo que respecta a la captura de C como servicio ecosistémico, permitiendo la conservación de estos recursos y la provisión continua de bienes y servicios ambientales para el sector.]]></p></abstract>
