El objetivo de esta investigación fue evaluar el efecto de diferentes concentraciones de miel de abeja multifloral, aplicadas mediante aspersión foliar durante la temporada de crecimiento, en las características fisicoquímicas poscosecha de frutos de calabaza italiana (Cucurbita pepo L.) bajo refrigeración. En campo se aplicó un diseño experimental completamente al azar con 4 tratamientos (0, 10, 15 y 20 % de miel) con 3 repeticiones. Después de la colecta de frutos por cada tratamiento se almacenaron en refrigeración a 4-5 °C durante 48 días. Los parámetros evaluados fueron: el potencial de hidrógeno, sólidos solubles totales, la conductividad eléctrica y la dureza del fruto. Los resultados mostraron que el tratamiento al 10 % mantuvo valores más altos y homogéneos de sólidos solubles totales, mientras que el potencial de hidrógeno se estabilizó tras el día 16 con diferencias significativas a favor de este tratamiento. La conductividad eléctrica presentó incrementos significativos en el tratamiento 3 entre los días 4 y 28. En cuanto a la dureza, no se detectaron diferencias significativas entre tratamientos, aunque el control registró los valores más bajos durante todo el almacenamiento. La aspersión foliar de miel de abeja multifloral durante el manejo agrícola constituye una alternativa prometedora para mejorar la conservación poscosecha de Cucurbita pepo L. bajo refrigeración, aunque se recomienda profundizar en estudios fisiológicos y a escala productiva para validar su aplicabilidad comercial.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Postharvest waste of fruits and vegetables is a global challenge that requires innovative strategies to extend the shelf life of fresh produce and preserve its quality. The objective of this research was to evaluate the effect of various concentrations of multifloral honey, applied via foliar spraying throughout the growing season, on the postharvest physicochemical properties of Italian squash (Cucurbita pepo L.) fruits under refrigeration. A completely randomized experimental design was implemented in the field, consisting of 4 treatments (0, 10, 15, and 20 % honey) and 3 replications. After harvesting, fruits from each treatment were stored under refrigeration at 4-5 °C for 48 days. The evaluated parameters included hydrogen potential (pH), total soluble solids, electrical conductivity, and fruit firmness. The results showed that the 10 % treatment maintained higher and more uniform of total soluble solids values, and pH stabilized after day 16. There were significant differences in favor of this treatment. Electrical conductivity increased significantly in treatment 3 between days 4 and 28. Regarding firmness, no significant differences were observed among the treatments, although the control had the lowest values throughout storage. Foliar spraying of multifloral honey on crops during management is a promising alternative for improving the postharvest preservation of Cucurbita pepo L. under refrigeration. However, further physiological and large- scale studies are needed to validate its commercial applicability.]]></p></abstract>
