Este yacimiento se localiza al noroeste de la provincia de Pinar del Río, Cuba, las complejidades geológicas de la región indican la inexistencia de homogeneidad en los contenidos de Cu. El análisis estructural muestra alta asimetría de la variable estudiada, la inexistencia de normalidad fue verificada por: diferencias notables entre la media y la mediana, el coeficiente de variación es mayor que 1 y diferencias en la media de los contenidos de Cu en ventanas móviles. Los datos se transformaron logarítmicamente con el objetivo de asegurar la estacionalidad necesaria y consecuentemente lograr la mejor exactitud posible en la estimación de recursos, utilizando la unidad de selección minera (USM) racional. Los datos transformados revelaron un comportamiento más homogéneo, lo cual fue demostrado por mejores resultados en la estadística básica y en valores medios estables en ventanas móviles. Los semivariogramas mostraron estructuras definidas con anisotropía en las direcciones 0° y 90° (considerando 0° al norte). La aplicación del Kriegado Lognormal en la estimación de los recursos es el objetivo principal de este trabajo debido a las complejidades geológicas de la región de estudio.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Resources estimation of the copper grade values (Cu) using geostatistical methods was carried out in the &#8220;Hierro Mantua&#8221; (Cobre Mantua) mineral deposit, which is located at the north-west of Pinar del Río province, Cuba. The geologic complexities in the region of the deposit indicate the non-existence of homogeneity in the Cu values. The structural analysis showed a high asymmetric distribution in the variable studied. The non-existence of normality was verified by different mean and median values, a coefficient of variability greater than one, and the moving windows statistics of the mean was different. Under the previous conditions the data were log-transformed to assure the necessary stationarity in them and consequently to achieve an adequate accuracy in the resources estimation, using a rational Selecting Mining Unit (SMU). The log-transformed data revealed a homogeneous behavior in Cu grade values, demonstrated by better results in basic and moving windows statistics. Semivariograms showed defined structures with anisotropy in the 0° and 90° directions (considering 0 to the north). To apply the Lognormal Kriging estimation is the main objective of this work, because of the complexities of the geology in the studied area.]]></p></abstract>
