Desde un paradigma de sostenibilidad, se ha implementado el uso de modos alternativos y el transporte público como un modelo que integra objetivos económicos, sociales y ambientales. Por su parte, el rol de los colectivos sociales sobre las acciones de los gobiernos locales y nacionales han promovido políticas que apuntan a responder a la necesidad de movilidad de las personas, sin perder de vista la construcción de ciudades para el futuro. Este ensayo propone una discusión alrededor del papel del peatón, a partir de la conferencia No. 4 de la Red de Investigación Internacional REHVIF &#8220;Habitar las ciudades del futuro&#8221;. En este debate, se plantea una revisión teórica de la movilidad urbana sostenible en América Latina y el Caribe y se proponen elementos claves sobre el peatón dentro del sistema de movilidad urbana así como el de actores sociales, tomadores de decisiones.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Mobility is the nodal axis of urban development. From a sustainability paradigm, the use of alternative modes and public transportation has been implemented as a model that integrates economic, social and environmental objectives. For their part, the role of social collectives on the actions of local and national governments have promoted policies that aim to respond to people's need for mobility, without losing sight of the construction of cities for the future. This essay proposes a discussion around the role of pedestrians, based on the conference No. 4 of REHVIF international research network "inhabiting the cities of the future&#8221;. Around this debate, a theoretical review of sustainable urban mobility in Latin America and the Caribbean is presented and key elements are proposed for broader discussions around pedestrians in urban mobility systems but also the social, economic and governmental actors involved in decision making.]]></p></abstract>
