La resistencia bacteriana a los antibióticos es un problema de salud mundial. Las investigaciones relacionadas con este problema emergente son indispensables para reconocer y desarrollar programas para su vigilancia y control. Objetivo. Revisar y comentar las contribuciones de los investigadores mexicanos en el área de la resistencia bacteriana a los antibióticos. Materiales y métodos. Se realizó una búsqueda de la literatura científica relacionada con la resistencia bacteriana a los antibióticos producida por investigadores mexicanos y registrada en Medline-PubMed entre 1973 y julio de 2013. Resultados. En 66 publicaciones, las contribuciones de investigadores mexicanos incluyeron datos sobre la resistencia de agentes patógenos entéricos como Salmonella Typhi, múltiples contribuciones sobre la producción de betalactamasas de espectro extendido, de metalobetalactamasas y de carbapenemasas, los mecanismos de resistencia en Pseudomonas aeruginosa y la evolución de la resistencia en cocos Gram positivos como Streptococcus pneumoniae , Staphylococcus aureus y Enterococcus spp., entre otros. Conclusiones. Los datos publicados en los últimos 40 años son fuente adecuada para entender la evolución de la resistencia bacteriana a los antibióticos y desarrollar programas para su control.]]></p></abstract>

De manera frecuente se reportan nuevos mecanismos de resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos, tanto en bacterias Gram negativas como en bacterias Gram positivas. </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>Un ejemplo reciente es la descripci&oacute;n de la llamada metalobetalactamasa Nueva Delhi ( <i>bla </i>NDM-1 ), una betalactamasa descrita en el 2008 que presenta resistencia a penicilinas, cefalosporinas y sus derivados (1,2). Los primeros reportes demostraron que este nuevo mecanismo de resistencia, aunado a otros mecanismos que poseen las bacterias Gram negativas, ocasiona un incremento en la morbilidad y la mortalidad en pacientes hospitalizados que adquieren una infecci&oacute;n producida por la metalobetalactamasa Nueva Delhi ( <i>bla </i>NDM-1 ) (1,2). </p>     <p>La resistencia bacteriana es utilizada por algunos microorganismos como mecanismo de defensa; es un fen&oacute;meno que exist&iacute;a antes del descubrimiento de los antibi&oacute;ticos y de su uso, pero que con su introducci&oacute;n en el tratamiento de enfermedades infecciosas se ha intensificado debido al fen&oacute;meno denominado &quot;presi&oacute;n selectiva&quot; contra las bacterias, considerado como uno de los factores m&aacute;s importantes para la aparici&oacute;n y diseminaci&oacute;n de la resistencia a los antibi&oacute;ticos (3). La presencia de resistencia en una bacteria causante de infecci&oacute;n disminuye las posibilidades de obtener la curaci&oacute;n cl&iacute;nica y la erradicaci&oacute;n bacteriol&oacute;gica e incrementa los costos de tratamiento, la morbilidad y la mortalidad (4), por lo que es importante seleccionar un tratamiento emp&iacute;rico adecuado (5). </p>     <p>En los Estados Unidos, las infecciones causadas por bacterias resistentes causan un incremento anual de los costos globales del tratamiento para infecciones bacterianas de US$ 20 billones; US $25 billones se pierden por falta de productividad y US$ 8 billones por el aumento en los d&iacute;as de hospitalizaci&oacute;n del paciente infectado (6). </p>     <p>En el 2007 ocurri&oacute; en Europa un fen&oacute;meno similar a lo que ocurre en los Estados Unidos. El n&uacute;mero de infecciones causadas por bacterias resistentes a los antibi&oacute;ticos fue mayor a 400 en el a&ntilde;o, con m&aacute;s de 25 defunciones atribuibles a dichas infecciones, y m&aacute;s de 2.500 d&iacute;as de hospitalizaci&oacute;n adicionales, as&iacute; como un costo adicional del tratamiento global de &pound;1'500.000 al a&ntilde;o (7). </p>     <p>La resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos que m&aacute;s preocupa a los m&eacute;dicos responsables del diagn&oacute;stico y tratamiento de una infecci&oacute;n es la llamada resistencia adquirida, la cual ocurre en una bacteria inicialmente sensible a los antibi&oacute;ticos por cambios, por mutaciones o por la adquisici&oacute;n de genes de resistencia durante el fen&oacute;meno conocido como transferencia gen&eacute;tica lateral, que es un proceso por medio del cual un organismo transfiere material gen&eacute;tico a otra c&eacute;lula que no es descendiente (3,8-11). La resistencia bacteriana adquirida a los antibi&oacute;ticos puede ser de distintos tipos, dependiendo de la presi&oacute;n selectiva, las mutaciones o la transferencia de genes de resistencia. </p>     <p>Las definiciones de resistencia se clasifican seg&uacute;n el n&uacute;mero y la clase de antibi&oacute;ticos afectados. La multirresistencia ( <i>Multiple Drug Resistance </i>, MDR) se define como la ausencia de sensibilidad a, por lo menos, un f&aacute;rmaco en tres o m&aacute;s de las categor&iacute;as de antibi&oacute;ticos; la resistencia extrema ( <i>Extensively Drug-Resistant </i>, XDR) se refiere a la ausencia de sensibilidad a, por lo menos, un agente en todas las categor&iacute;as de antimicrobianos excepto en dos de ellas o menos, y la resistencia a todos los antimicrobianos se define como resistencia a todas las categor&iacute;as de antibi&oacute;ticos (12). </p>     <p>Una de las prioridades de investigaci&oacute;n cruciales en la lucha para controlar la resistencia bacteriana es el desarrollo y mantenimiento de los programas, ya sean locales, nacionales, regionales o mundiales, orientados a la vigilancia de la evoluci&oacute;n de la resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos y del uso adecuado de los tratamientos antimicrobianos (7). </p>     <p>La investigaci&oacute;n sobre la resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos en M&eacute;xico se centr&oacute; inicialmente en las infecciones gastrointestinales, aunque tambi&eacute;n se ha enfocado en la generaci&oacute;n de reportes y en la descripci&oacute;n de los mecanismos de resistencia en aislamientos provenientes principalmente de muestras de pacientes con infecciones hospitalarias, as&iacute; como de brotes, endemias o de pat&oacute;genos persistentes. Se cuenta, igualmente, con un panorama general de la resistencia en las infecciones comunitarias m&aacute;s frecuentes en nuestro pa&iacute;s, como son las de las v&iacute;as respiratorias. </p>     <p>A continuaci&oacute;n presentamosuna revisi&oacute;n de los aspectos m&aacute;s relevantes de las contribuciones de investigadores mexicanos en torno a la problem&aacute;tica de la resistencia antimicrobiana durante los &uacute;ltimos 40 a&ntilde;os (<a href="#cuadro1">cuadro 1</a>). </p>      <p>    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<center>     <a name="cuadro1"><img src="img/revistas/bio/v34s1/v34s1a21t1.gif"></a>     </center> 	     <p><b>M&eacute;todos </b></p>     <p>Se realiz&oacute; una b&uacute;squeda de la literatura cient&iacute;fica relacionada con la resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos en la base de datos biom&eacute;dicos conocida como Medline-PubMed. La b&uacute;squeda incluy&oacute; el periodo comprendido entre 1973 y julio de 2013 y se hizo con base en los siguientes t&eacute;rminos: (&quot;Resistance&quot;) and (&quot;Bacterial&quot;) and (&quot;Antibiotics&quot;) and (&quot;Mexico&quot;). La relevancia de las publicaciones encontradas en la b&uacute;squeda fue evaluada por todos los autores. </p>     <p><b>Resultados </b></p>     <p><b><i>Pat&oacute;genos ent&eacute;ricos </i></b></p>     <p>En 1973 apareci&oacute; la primera publicaci&oacute;n de inves tigadores mexicanos relacionada con la resistencia a los antibi&oacute;ticos en bacterias que pueden causar cuadros diarreicos o s&iacute;ndromes de fiebre ent&eacute;rica (fiebre tifoidea); en ella los autores analizaron la resistencia a los antimicrobianos de <i>Salmonella </i>Typhi, pat&oacute;geno responsable durante 1972 de miles de casos durante una epidemia de fiebre tifoidea que afect&oacute; principalmente los estados centrales de la Rep&uacute;blica Mexicana (13). En 452 de 493 (91,7 %) cepas de <i>Salmonella </i>Typhi analizadas se encontr&oacute; resistencia a cloranfenicol, tetraciclina, estreptomicina y a las sulfas. </p>     <p>En 1987 se inici&oacute; la investigaci&oacute;n de la resistencia a los antimicrobianos en un pat&oacute;geno ent&eacute;rico frecuente, <i>Escherichia coli </i> enterotoxig&eacute;nica. En estos aislamientos pedi&aacute;tricos se encontr&oacute; resistencia a la ampicilina, la tetraciclina, la estreptomicina y la kanamicina (14). El patr&oacute;n de resistencia sigui&oacute; report&aacute;ndose hasta una de las &uacute;ltimas publicaciones del 2005, en la cual cepas de <i>E. coli </i> productoras de diarrea mostraban sensibilidad &uacute;nicamente a ciprofloxacina y cefotaxima (15). Las dos primeras publicaciones tuvieron relevancia cl&iacute;nica al alertar, una sobre la resistencia a cloranfenicol, y la otra, a ampicilina, antibi&oacute;ticos estos que para la d&eacute;cada de los setenta (cloranfenicol) y para la d&eacute;cada de los ochenta (ampicilina) se utilizaban frecuentemente como la terapia de elecci&oacute;n en cuadros de infecciones ent&eacute;ricas. </p>     <p>En 1989, Santos, <i>et al., </i>reportaron los resultados <i>in vitro </i> de la sensibilidad de <i>Shigella </i> spp., <i>Salmonella </i> spp. y <i>E. coli </i> en aislamientos provenientes de pacientes internados en un hospital pedi&aacute;trico en la ciudad de M&eacute;xico a lo largo de tres d&eacute;cadas, 1960, 1970 y 1980 (16). Los resultados mostraron una resistencia en aumento a los antibi&oacute;ticos m&aacute;s com&uacute;nmente utilizados como la ampicilina, y una disminuci&oacute;n de la resistencia a la furazolidona. </p>     <p>En el 2007 y el 2009 se report&oacute; el surgimiento y la diseminaci&oacute;n de un pat&oacute;geno ent&eacute;rico multi rresis tente, <i>Salmonella </i>Typhimurium, por la producci&oacute;n de una betalactamasa de tipo AmpC (17,18). </p>     <p>Finalmente, en el 2011 se report&oacute; la resistencia creciente a claritromicina en <i>Helicobacter pylori </i> y en el 2012 la resistencia a los antimicrobianos en <i>Campylobacter </i>spp. de aislamientos recolectados entre el 2003 y el 2006 (19,20). </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p><b>Bacterias productoras de betalactamasas de espectro extendido </b></p>     <p>La resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos mediada por la producci&oacute;n de betalactamasas de espectro extendido (BLEE), que inactivan la actividad de las cefalosporinas de tercera generaci&oacute;n, constituy&oacute; en M&eacute;xico uno de los mecanismos m&aacute;s frecuentes de resistencia en el entorno hospitalario y en los casos de brotes, lo que incentiv&oacute; la investigaci&oacute;n sobre los mecanismos de resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos en las BLEE. Desde el final de la d&eacute;cada de los noventa se han descrito pruebas para inferir la producci&oacute;n de BLEE en el laboratorio de microbiolog&iacute;a cl&iacute;nica, espec&iacute;ficamente la resistencia en enterobacterias aisladas entre 1991 y 1993 a la cefotaxima (89 % result&oacute; resistente) y a la ceftazidima (100 % result&oacute; resistente), as&iacute; como la identificaci&oacute;n de variantes de las betalactamasas de tipo SHV, que es el tipo de BLEE m&aacute;s com&uacute;nmente identificado en M&eacute;xico (21-23). En el 2000 se describi&oacute; una nueva BLEE en <i>E. coli </i>, la TLA-1 (24). En el 2001 se describi&oacute; <i>Klebsiella pneumoniae </i> productora de BLEE como un pat&oacute;geno pedi&aacute;trico importante; en este primer reporte se identificaron aislamientos provenientes de un brote ocurrido en 1996 como productores de BLEE de tipo SHV-5 (25). En ese mismo a&ntilde;o se reportaron bacteriemias por <i>K. pneumoniae </i> productora de BLEE en dos art&iacute;culos que describieron la problem&aacute;tica de la infecci&oacute;n causada por este microorganismo en neonatolog&iacute;a (26,27). </p>     <p>Entre el 2004 y el 2008 la situaci&oacute;n causada por las bacterias productoras de BLEE se describi&oacute; en muchos hospitales mexicanos, en los que se presentaron bacteriemias e infecciones urinarias por <i>K. pneumoniae </i> productoras de SHV-5 y TLA-1. Se inform&oacute;, asimismo, de la diseminaci&oacute;n hospitalaria de un clon de <i>K. pneumoniae </i>productora de BLEE SHV-5 y TEM-1 y de los pl&aacute;smidos responsables de la diseminaci&oacute;n, de <i>Serratia marcescens </i> productora de SHV-5, que caus&oacute; un brote en 1999, e igualmente de la evoluci&oacute;n durante 10 a&ntilde;os de <i>K. pneumoniae </i> productoras de diferentes BLEE, principalmente SHV-5, en un hospital especializado de adultos en la ciudad de M&eacute;xico (28-32). </p>     <p>A partir de 2009, la investigaci&oacute;n relacionada con la resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos mediada por diferentes BLEE se expandi&oacute; hasta incluir descripciones de los pl&aacute;smidos y transposones que codifican para SHV-5 en <i>Enterobacter cloacae, </i>responsable entonces de un brote hospitalario, y, asimismo, se describi&oacute; la localizaci&oacute;n del gen que codifica para TLA-1 y el lugar de su inserci&oacute;n secuencial; las especies bacterianas productoras de BLEE m&aacute;s frecuentemente aisladas en ocho hospitales mexicanos fueron <i>K. pneumoniae </i>(56 %), <i>E. cloacae </i>(29 %) y <i>E. coli </i>(15 %) productoras de BLEE de tipo SHV (84 %), TLA-1 (11 %) y CTX-M (5 %) (33-35). Tambi&eacute;n se describi&oacute; la presencia de un pl&aacute;smido con genes que codifican para resistencia a quinolonas en bacterias productoras de BLEE y la presencia de enterobacterias productoras de BLEE en un hospital de tercer nivel en Monterrey, donde la CTX-M-15 fue la BLEE m&aacute;s frecuentemente encontrada; asimismo, se observ&oacute; la producci&oacute;n de BLEE de tipo GES en un estudio multic&eacute;ntrico nacional (36-39). </p>     <p><b>Metalobetalactamasas y carbapenemasas </b></p>     <p>Un hallazgo importante fue la descripci&oacute;n de una metalobetalactamasa de tipo VIM-2 localizada en un integr&oacute;n en las enterobacterias <i>E. cloacae </i> y en <i>Klebsiella oxytoca, </i>y una VIM-23 en <i>E. cloacae </i>encontradas en Guadalajara, al occidente del pa&iacute;s (40). </p>     <p>M&aacute;s recientemente hubo dos hallazgos importantes: la detecci&oacute;n en un brote hospitalario en un hospital de la Ciudad de M&eacute;xico de la primera KPC-3 <i></i>en <i> K. pneumoniae </i> y la primera NDM-1 aislada en <i>Providencia rettgeri </i> en Monterrey (41). </p>     <p><b><i>Pseudomonas aeruginosa </i></b></p>     <p>En M&eacute;xico, los mecanismos de resistencia de <i>P. aeruginosa </i> se han venido describiendo desde 1986; en tales reportes se dio cuenta de la sensibilidad en aislamientos provenientes de un hospital en Morelia, en los cuales se hallaron los genes <i>IMP-15 </i> y <i>IMP-18 </i>, que codifican para la producci&oacute;n de dos metalobetactamasas, y de la producci&oacute;n simult&aacute;nea de diferentes tipos de BLEE, incluida la GES-5 en asociaci&oacute;n con VIM-2 y VIM-11. Otra publicaci&oacute;n informa del hallazgo en aislamientos provenientes de la Ciudad de M&eacute;xico de los genes <i>IMP-15 </i> y <i>VIM-2 </i>. Asimismo, en un paciente con fibrosis qu&iacute;stica se encontr&oacute; <i>P. aeruginosa </i>productoras de las betalactamasas OXA 141 (42-49). </p>     <p><b><i>Acinetobacter baumannii </i></b></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>La bacteria <i>A. baumannii </i>es un pat&oacute;geno bacteriano multirresistente que aparece como pat&oacute;geno hospitalario y del cual se ocupan dos publicaciones mexicanas. En la primera se aborda la creciente problem&aacute;tica causada por las infecciones hospitalarias causadas por bacterias multirresistentes en Monterrey y se describe el hallazgo de multirresistencia en 74 % de 550 aislamientos de <i>A. baumannii </i>recolectados durante tres a&ntilde;os y de resistencia a meropenem en 59 % de ellos. </p>     <p>En la segunda publicaci&oacute;n se describe la epidemiolog&iacute;a de <i>A. baumannii </i> durante 13 a&ntilde;os en un hospital universitario de tercer nivel de atenci&oacute;n en Guadalajara. Se analizaron 3.680 aislamientos y se encontr&oacute; que la diseminaci&oacute;n se inici&oacute; en una unidad de cuidados intensivos de pacientes adultos. Se observ&oacute; que la sensibilidad a meropenem disminuy&oacute; entre 1999 y 2012 (de 92 a 12 %), y que diferentes clones de <i>A. baumannii </i> produc&iacute;an VIM-4, IMP-1 y OXA-24; el microorganismo se aisl&oacute; m&aacute;s frecuentemente en secreciones y afect&oacute; a pacientes que por la gravedad de su cuadro de ingreso (neurocirug&iacute;a, medicina interna) fueron estabilizados primero en la unidad de cuidados intensivos para despu&eacute;s ser trasladados a los servicios hospitalarios del caso (50,51). </p>     <p><b><i>Streptoccocus pneumoniae </i>y <i>Streptococcus pyogenes </i></b></p>     <p>Las publicaciones relacionadas con la resistencia de un pat&oacute;geno comunitario como lo es <i>Streptococcus pneumoniae </i>se iniciaron en 1998, cuando se demostr&oacute; que el microorganismo hab&iacute;a comenzado a presentar resistencia creciente a la penicilina y a otros antibi&oacute;ticos betalact&aacute;micos; la investigaci&oacute;n continu&oacute; con el an&aacute;lisis de 350 aislamientos de <i>S. pneumoniae </i>recolectados entre 1995 y 2001, los cuales demostraron resistencia a la penicilina, en general, y algunos, resistencia compartida a penicilina y a cefalosporinas, macr&oacute;lidos, ciprofloxacina, trimetoprim-sulfametoxazol, cloranfenicol y tetraciclinas, tal como lo describe una publicaci&oacute;n de 2013 en la que se analizan, adem&aacute;s de la resistencia, el tipo de enfermedad que provoca esta bacteria y sus serotipos (22,52,53). </p>     <p>Distintos investigadores mexicanos colaboran con la red panamericana de seguimiento del desarrollo de resistencia de <i>Streptococcus pneumoniae </i> contra eritromicina, cloranfenicol, t rimetoprim-sulfametoxazol y vancomicina (SIREVA), cuyos reportes han demostrado la resistencia en aumento a t rimetoprim-sulfametoxazol y a eritromicina en 10 pa&iacute;ses latinoamericanos, incluido M&eacute;xico, as&iacute; como la nula resistencia a vancomicina (54). </p>     <p>La resistencia en aumento de <i>S. pyogenes </i> a eritromicina se demostr&oacute; en una publicaci&oacute;n reciente en la cual, adem&aacute;s, se compararon aislamientos mexicanos con aquellos de Estados Unidos (55). </p>     <p><b><i>Staphylococcus aureus </i></b><b>, estafilococos negativos para coagulasa </b></p>     <p>Otro pat&oacute;geno de gran importancia para M&eacute;xico ha sido <i>S. aureus </i> recuperado generalmente de aislamientos hospitalarios. Se ha descrito la evoluci&oacute;n de un clon resistente a la meticilina, denominado M, en un hospital pedi&aacute;trico de la Ciudad de M&eacute;xico y c&oacute;mo dicho clon fue reemplazado por el llamado clon Nueva York- Jap&oacute;n; por otra parte, tambi&eacute;n se describi&oacute; el clon predominante resistente a meticilina (Nueva York-Jap&oacute;n) encontrado en un hospital de Guadalajara, el cual caus&oacute; infecciones principalmente en pacientes adultos de servicios quir&uacute;rgicos como el de ortopedia, as&iacute; como la resistencia del llamado clon USA 300 en nuestro pa&iacute;s (56-58). </p>     <p>La diversidad de las estructuras cromos&oacute;micas <i>mec </i>en estafilococos negativos para coagulasa y su relaci&oacute;n con la resistencia bacteriana, as&iacute; como la presencia de esta variante cromos&oacute;mica en distintos hospitales de la rep&uacute;blica mexicana, se public&oacute; en el 2010, a&ntilde;o en que tambien apareci&oacute; el primer reporte en M&eacute;xico de resistencia a linezolid en tres aislamientos de estafilococos negativos para coagulasa, resistencia desarrollada a trav&eacute;s de la adquisici&oacute;n del gen <i>Cfr </i>encontrado en aislamientos del antiguo Hospital Civil de Guadalajara (59-61). </p>     <p><b><i>Enterococcus </i></b><b>spp <i>. </i></b></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>La descripci&oacute;n de la presencia de diversos <i>Enterococcus </i> spp. en M&eacute;xico se inici&oacute; en 1996 con el reporte de altos niveles de resistencia a gentamicina; en este reporte, originado en un hospital de atenci&oacute;n terciaria con 200 camas de la Ciudad de M&eacute;xico, se dio cuenta de 407 aislamientos de <i>Enterococcus </i>spp. recolectados entre 1990 y 1992, de los cuales 245 eran de pacientes hospitalizados y 162 de pacientes ambulatorios. En los aislamientos predomin&oacute; <i>Enterococcus faecalis </i> (n=325) seguido de <i>Enterococcus </i><i>faecium </i> (n=61). <i>E. </i><i>faecium </i>demostr&oacute; resistencia a ampicilina e imipenem en 59 % de los aislamientos (62). En el 2007 se report&oacute; resistencia a vancomicina en estos pat&oacute;genos y en el 2011 se hall&oacute; resistencia de estas bacterias en Quer&eacute;taro. M&aacute;s recientemente, se estudi&oacute; la relaci&oacute;n entre <i>Enterococcus </i>spp. aislados de agua y de pacientes, y se observ&oacute; que no exist&iacute;a similitud entre ellos y que los aislamientos cl&iacute;nicos presentaron mayor resistencia a los antibi&oacute;ticos que los provenientes del agua (63-65). </p>     <p><b>Tendencias generales de la resistencia </b></p>     <p>Diferentes autores mexicanos han contribuido a la descripci&oacute;n de tendencias de resistencia bacteriana a los antimicrobianos en diferentes casos, tal como la resistencia a quinolonas en <i>Brucella </i>spp. y la transferencia del gen de resistencia a quinolonas <i>qnrA1 </i>en <i>E. coli </i>(66,67). La resistencia de <i>E. coli </i>es la causante de diversas infecciones (68). </p>     <p>Otros autores han contribuido a la descripci&oacute;n de la evoluci&oacute;n de la resistencia en diversos centros hospitalarios, incluidos hospitales de tercer nivel y hospitales de oncolog&iacute;a (69-71). </p>     <p>Otra publicaci&oacute;n describe tambi&eacute;n las tendencias comparativas de la resistencia de bacilos Gram negativos causantes de infecciones hospitalarias en dos hospitales mexicanos, y otra, la resistencia en los pat&oacute;genos bacterianos del as&iacute; llamado grupo ESKAPE (72,73). </p>     <p><b>Contribuciones en las redes internacionales </b></p>     <p>Son muchas las contribuciones de los investi gadores mexicanos a las redes internacionales que recopilan informaci&oacute;n y reportan sobre la resistencia bacteriana, tales como aquellas que reportan sobre la evoluci&oacute;n de la resistencia en <i>Haemophilus influenzae </i>, la bacteriemia por <i>Salmonella </i> spp., los pat&oacute;genos respiratorios o la resistencia a linezolid. Tambi&eacute;n se destaca su participaci&oacute;n en la red SENTRY (74-78). </p>     <p><b>Conclusiones </b></p>     <p>La contribuci&oacute;n de los investigadores mexicanos al estudio del problema de la resistencia bacteriana a los antibi&oacute;ticos es extensa, con una tendencia a describir los mecanismos de resistencia en bacterias responsables de infecciones hospitalarias como las productoras de BLEE. La informaci&oacute;n publicada ha sido crucial para entender y controlar las infecciones hospitalarias causadas por pat&oacute;genos multirresistentes. </p>     <p>Gracias a las contribuciones mencionadas, en nuestro pa&iacute;s hemos identificado las tendencias de resistencia, as&iacute; como la epidemiologia hospitalaria, el tipo de bacterias implicadas y su evoluci&oacute;n (51,72). </p>     ]]></body>
