This research identified soil contamination by heavy metals (Lead, Copper, Zinc, and Manganese) by examining physical and chemical properties (Phosphorus, Potassium, organic carbon, cation exchange capacity, pH, texture, and bulk density) of the area during the dry and rainy seasons of 2017. Composite samplings of soil were carried out in both seasons, in order to obtain a representative value of the soil in certified laboratories. Thereafter, through interpolation by means of the Kriging method, a spatial scale of metal concentrations was conducted. This led to the conclusion that the study area has an acceptable environmental quality (5.8-6.9) for its current use of grazing. Likewise, the area presents a medium level (75.37), pursuant to the Potential Ecological Risk Index (RI) for the dry season, and a very high risk (195.04) during the rainy season. These estimates are directly related to lead concentrations, introduced to the soil of the area by human development activities and by contributions of parent material to the soil surface layers, through natural processes of weathering.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN La presencia de metales en suelos usados para actividades económicas primarias puede generar impactos en el ambiente y la salud pública. Este estudio identificó la contaminación de suelo por metales pesados (Plomo, Cobre, Zinc y Manganeso), mediante la determinación de propiedades físicas y químicas (Fósforo, Potasio, carbón orgánico, capacidad de intercambio catiónico, pH, textura y densidad aparente) durante la época seca y la época de lluvia del año 2017. Se realizó un muestreo compuesto de suelo, obteniendo un valor representativo a escala espacial, por medio de la interpolación con Kriging, de las concentraciones de metales determinadas en laboratorios certificados. Como resultado, se identificó que la zona de estudio presenta calidad ambiental aceptable (5,8-6,9) para el uso actual de pastoreo y delimitación del área de conservación del pozo de agua subterránea. De igual forma, se evidenció que el área presenta un Índice de Riesgo Ecológico Potencial (RI) de carácter medio (75,37) para la época seca, y riesgo muy fuerte (195,04) en época de lluvia. Estas estimaciones están directamente relacionadas con las concentraciones de plomo, el cual puede ser introducido al suelo por actividades de desarrollo humano en la zona y por aportes a las capas superficiales del suelo del material parental del área, generados por procesos naturales de meteorización.]]></p></abstract>
