En Colombia, cerca del 56,4 % de la población tiene exceso de peso. En razón a esto, entre el 15 de octubre del 2022 y 31 de enero del 2023, se realizó una revisión de tema en las bases de datos Scielo y Pubmed/Medline, dividida en dos partes: la primera, centrada en la relación fisiopatológica de patologías, como hipertensión arterial, diabetes mellitus, cáncer, entre otras, y la obesidad; la segunda, orientada en establecer el abordaje apropiado para la obesidad, incluyendo medidas farmacológicas y no farmacológicas. Con esta revisión se busca remarcar la importancia de un abordaje integral del paciente con obesidad, resaltando la importancia de su identificación como factor de riesgo o desencadenante de diversas condiciones metabólicas y cardiovasculares.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Obesity is a conditioning factor for the development of pathologies such as: type 2 diabetes mellitus, arterial hypertension, dyslipidemias, respiratory sleep disorders, cardiovascular conditions and increased risk of cancer. In Colombia, about 56.4 % of the population is overweight. For this reason, between October 15, 2022 and January 31, 2023, a review of the subject was carried out in the Scielo and Pubmed/Medline databases, divided into two parts: the first, focused on the pathophysiological relationship of pathologies such as arterial hypertension, diabetes mellitus, cancer, among others, and obesity; the second, aimed at establishing the appropriate approach to obesity, including pharmacological and non-pharmacological measures. This review seeks to highlight the importance of a comprehensive approach to patients with obesity, emphasizing the importance of its identification as a risk factor or trigger for various metabolic and cardiovascular conditions.]]></p></abstract>
