<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0121-03192023000300163&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0121-03192023000300163&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0121-03192023000300163&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Introducción: en la Región no Traducida (UTR) 3' del gen SLC6A3 que codifica para el transportador de dopamina 1 (DAT1), se ha descrito la presencia de Repeticiones en Tándem de Número Variable (VNTR) que según su longitud pueden afectar la expresión de la proteína y la recaptación dopaminérgica, lo que podría contribuir al desarrollo de trastornos neuropsiquiátricos como la ansiedad y la depresión.  Objetivo: describir la frecuencia de polimorfismos VNTR en la región UTR 3' del gen DATi en una muestra de estudiantes de pregrado con bajos niveles de depresión y ansiedad de una universidad privada de Cali, Colombia.  Método: estudio transversal en 62 universitarios entre 18-25 años en el 2018, seleccionados con bajos niveles de ansiedad y depresión según los inventarios de Beck Depression Inventory (BDI -II) y Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI). Los polimorfismos VNTR del gen SLC6A3 para DAT-1 fueron genotipificados a partir de ADN de sangre periférica a partir de la técnica de PCR. Con las frecuencias se calculó el equilibrio de Hardy Weinberg.  Resultados: el 52 % de los sujetos fueron de sexo femenino, con una media de edad de 20 años. Las frecuencias genotípicas de los VNTR de DAT1 estaban en equilibrio de Hardy- Weinberg (p &gt; 0.05). Los alelos con mayor frecuencia fueron los VNTR con 10R (75 %) y 9R (23,4 %). Se encontró la presencia de alelos raros de 11R y 6R (0,08 %) en genotipos heterocigotos con 10R.  Conclusión: las frecuencias alélicas 10R y 9R del VNTR DAT-1 en universitarios con bajos niveles de depresión y ansiedad, fueron similares a las reportadas en otras poblaciones latinoamericanas. Las variantes menos frecuentes 6R y 11R pueden derivarse del mestizaje con poblaciones asiáticas o europeas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction: in the 3' Untranslated Region (UTR) of the SLC6A3 gene coding for the dopamine transporter 1 (DAT1), the presence of Variable Number Tandem Repeats (VNTR) has been described that, depending on their length, can affect protein expression and dopaminergic reuptake, which could contribute to the development of neuropsychiatry disorders such as anxiety and depression.  Objective: to describe the frequency of VNTR polymorphisms in the 3' UTR region of the DAT1 gene in a sample of undergraduate students with low levels of depression and anxiety from a private university in Cali, Colombia.  Methods: cross-sectional study in 62 college students aged 18-25 years in 2018, selected with low levels of anxiety and depression according to Beck Depression Inventory (BDI -II) and Beck Anxiety Inventory (BAI) inventories. VNTR polymorphisms of the SLC6A3 gene for DAT-1 were genotyped from peripheral blood DNA from PCR technique. Hardy Weinberg equilibrium was calculated with the frequencies.  Results: fifty-two percent of the subjects were female, with a mean age of 20 years. The genotypic frequencies of DAT1 VNTRs were in Hardy- Weinberg equilibrium (p &gt; 0.05). The alleles with the highest frequency were VNTRs with 10R (75 %) and 9R (23.4 %). Rare alleles of 11R and 6R (0.08 %) were found to be present in heterozygous genotypes with 10R.  Conclusion: the 10R and 9R allele frequencies of VNTR DAT-1 in university students with low levels of depression and anxiety were similar to those reported in other Latin American populations. The less frequent 6R and 11R variants may derive from interbreeding with Asian or European populations.]]></p></abstract>
