Ante esta situación, surge el interés de estudiar la fragmentación y conectividad del bosque en una subcuenca agropecuaria en el noroeste del Valle Central de Costa Rica. Se propone, mediante el uso de aplicaciones SIG, una red de conectividad basada en enlaces de vegetación a partir de la red de drenaje. Se encontró que la fragmentación en la subcuenca es diferencial, en virtud de la distribución e intensidad de los usos de la tierra. Así, las partes altas presentan mayor cobertura y continuidad del bosque, mientras que en las zonas bajas la vegetación remanente se localiza casi exclusivamente en los márgenes de los ríos. Los usos que generan mayor fragmentación son principalmente los cultivos hortícolas, seguidos de los pastos, pastos con árboles dispersos y, en menor grado, los usos urbanos localizados generalmente a lo largo de las vías de comunicación.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Rural areas are exposed to forest fragmentation processes due to the development of environmentally unsustainable agricultural activities. This article studies the forest fragmentation and connectivity in an agricultural sub-basin to the northwest of the Central Valley of Costa Rica. By using GIS applications, a connectivity network was established based on vegetation linkages from the drainage network. Results showed that fragmentation of the sub-basin is differential, depending on the distribution and intensity of land use. Thus, the higher areas feature a greater coverage and a greater continuity of the forest, while in the lower areas, the remnant vegetation is located almost exclusively along the river banks. The uses generating the greatest fragmentation are horticultural crops, followed by grasses, grasses with dispersed trees, and, to a lesser extent, urban uses, generally found along communication routes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo As áreas rurais estão expostas a processos de fragmentação florestal devido ao desenvolvimento de atividades agropecuárias ambientalmente insustentáveis. Diante dessa situação, surge o interesse de estudar a fragmentação e conectividade da floresta em uma sub-bacia agropecuária no noroeste do Vale Central da Costa Rica. Propõe-se, através da utilização de aplicações SIG, uma rede de conectividade baseada em conexões de vegetação a partir da rede de drenagem. Verificou-se que a fragmentação na sub-bacia é diferencial, em virtude da distribuição e intensidade dos usos da terra. Assim, as partes altas apresentam maior cobertura e continuidade da floresta, enquanto nas áreas baixas a vegetação remanescente está localizada quase exclusivamente às margens dos rios.
