Se consideran las transformaciones en los usos del suelo y eventualmente el cambio climático. Se evalúan para un periodo de treinta años las modificaciones de los usos del suelo, utilizando un Sistema de Información Geográfica y se analizan las variabilidades de las precipitaciones y de los niveles de los ríos. Las tres cuencas muestran un comportamiento totalmente distinto en su cambio de uso del suelo, y muestran tendencias a un aumento en las precipitaciones durante el periodo estudiado. Se evidencia que el cambio de uso del suelo es uno de los factores que más influye en el incremento de las inundaciones en las áreas urbanas. Estas transformaciones en su mayoría están relacionadas con la explotación de los suelos para la generación de commodities de exportación, y causan modificaciones en los territorios agrarios de Uruguay. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract In this paper, three case studies are analyzed in Uruguay at the basin level, to identify the factors that favor the flood phenomenon. Transformations in land use and eventually climate change are considered. Over a 30-year period, land use modifications were evaluated using a Geographic Information System, and the variability of rainfall and river levels was analyzed. The three basins show completely different behavior from their land use change, and show increasing trends in rainfall over the period analyzed. It is evident that land use change is one of the most influential factors in the increase of flooding in urban areas. These transformations are mostly related to the exploitation of soil for the generation of commodities for export and generate modifications in the agrarian territories in Uruguay. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo Neste artigo, são analisados três estudos de caso das bacias no Uruguai, com o objetivo de identificar os fatores que favorecem a ocorrência de inundações. São consideradas as mudanças no uso do solo e eventualmente as mudanças climáticas. Também foram avaliadas, ao longo de um período de trinta anos as modificações no uso do solo, por meio de um Sistema de Informação Geográfica, e analisou-se a variabilidade da precipitação e dos níveis dos rios. As três bacias hidrográficas apresentam um comportamento totalmente diferente na mudança no uso do solo, e manifestam tendências crescentes de precipitação no período analisado. É evidente que a mudança no uso do solo é um dos fatores que mais influenciam o aumento das inundações nas áreas urbanas. Essas transformações estão principalmente relacionadas com a exploração dos solos para a geração de commodities de exportação e geram modificações nos territórios agrícolas do Uruguai.
