O artigo analisa o uso do PEst e de FE, bem como os benefícios percebidos em uma amostra de empresas de grande e médio porte de manufatura de autopeças do estado brasileiro de São Paulo. As empresas pertencentes a essa indústria adotam abordagens de melhoria há um tempo relativamente maior em comparação a outros setores industriais e é esperado que, por meio dessas abordagens, tenha sido criado um ambiente com maturidade no uso de conceitos de FE. A pesquisa empírica foi realizada por meio de um websurvey, obtendo-se uma amostra de 32 empresas, com a utilização de questionário respondido por gerentes da qualidade, produção ou da área de melhoria. Apesar do uso de diversas abordagens de melhoria, as empresas analisadas ainda não incorporaram completamente os conceitos estatísticos e possuem dificuldade no uso das ferramentas, principalmente as consideradas mais complexas. A análise multivariada dos dados evidenciou que o comportamento das empresas em relação à utilização de PEst e de FE não é homogêneo, e indicou grupos de empresas em diferentes níveis de maturidade no uso e nos benefícios percebidos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract The use of improvement approaches involves analysis and decision-making processes based on data and information analysis. This has a direct association with the use of Statistical Thinking and Statistical Tools. Therefore, this paper studies the use of statistical thinking and statistical tools, as well as the benefits perceived from their usage, in a sample of large and medium-sized companies in the manufacturing sector of spare-parts in São Paulo, Brazil. Companies belonging to this industry adopted improvement approaches long before other industrial sectors. Therefore, a mature environment for the use of concepts and statistical tools is expected from the adoption of such approaches. This empirical research was carried out through a web survey, obtaining a final sample of 32 companies. Quality, production or improvement managers of these companies were asked to answer a questionnaire. Results show that, despite the use of various improvement approaches, the studied companies have not fully incorporated statistical concepts and have difficulties using statistical tools, especially those considered as more complex. Multivariate analysis indicates that companies' behavior towards the use of both statistical thinking and tools is not homogeneous, and reveals groups of companies at different maturity levels in the use and perceived benefits.]]></p></abstract>

El artículo analiza el uso del PEst y HE, así como los beneficios percibidos en una muestra de grandes y medianas empresas de manufactura de repuestos del departamento de São Paulo, Brasil. Las empresas pertenecientes a esta industria adoptan enfoques de mejoría desde hace un tiempo relativamente mayor en comparación con otros sectores industriales y se espera que, mediante estos enfoques, se haya creado un ambiente de madurez en el uso de conceptos y HE. la investigación empírica se realizó por medio de un websurvey, y se obtuvo una muestra de 32 empresas, con la utilización de cuestionario contestado por gerentes de la calidad, producción o del área de mejoría. <abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="fr"><p><![CDATA[Résumé L'utilisation d'approches d'amélioration implique une analyse et des décisions basées sur des informations provenant de l'analyse des données, qui ont un lien direct avec l'utilisation de la pensée statistique (PST) et des outils statistiques (OS). L'article analyse l'utilisation de la PST et des OS, ainsi que les avantages perçus dans un échantillon de grandes et moyennes entreprises de fabrication de pièces de rechange du département de São Paulo, au Brésil. Les entreprises appartenant à cette industrie adoptent des approches d'amélioration depuis un temps relativement plus long par rapport à d'autres secteurs industrieis, et on s'attend à ce que ces approches aient permis de créer un environnement mür dans l'utilisation des concepts et OS. La recherche empirique a été menée au moyen d'une enquête sur le Web. On a obtenu un échantillon de 32 entreprises à l'aide d'un questionnaire, auquel ont répondu des responsables de la qualité, de la production ou du domaine d'amélioration. Malgré l'utilisation de différentes approches en matière d'amélioration, les entreprises analysées n'ont pas encore totalement intégré les concepts statistiques et ont des difficultés à utiliser les outils, en particulier ceux considérés comme plus complexes. L'analyse multivariée des données a montré que le comportement des entreprises vis-à-vis de l'utilisation de la PST et des OS n'est pas homogène. Elle a montré également des groupes d'entreprises à différents niveaux de maturité dans l'utilisation et les avantages perçus.]]></p></abstract>
