La producción de azucares es la etapa previa al proceso de fermentation, de allí su importancia en estudiarlas. En este trabajo previa caracterización de cascaras de yuca (CY) y cascaras de plátano (CP), se realizó un pretratamiento químico, con el fin de evaluar su efectividad en la obtención de azucares reductores totales (ART). Se planteó un diseño de experimentos factorial 23, cuyos factores fueron: tipo de hidrólisis (acida, alcalina), concentración del agente hidrolizante (1, 2%v/v) y tiempo de reacción (30, 60 min). El mayor contenido de ART para la CP fue de 2.35 g/L y se obtuvo al trabajar con 1 % de NaOH. En la CY se alcanzó una concentración de ART de 1.95 g/L al usar H  2 SO  4 al 2 %. Para ambos residuos, los mejores resultados se encontraron con un tiempo de reacción de 60 minutos. A traves del ANOVA se conoció que los factores por sí solos, no ejercen influencia significativa sobre la producción de ART, aunque se demostro que existe interacción entre estos. La relación que existe entre los métodos de pretratamiento empleados en la producción de ART, es un paso preliminar a procesos fermentativos a traves de los cuales es posible obtener una variedad de bioproductos vía biotecnológica.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Cassava and bannana residues are lignocellulosic biomass, with potential for revaluation through biorefining schemes based on fermentative processes. The prodution of sugars is the stage prior to the fermentation process, hence its importance in studying them. In this research, previous characterization of cassava peels (CY) and banana peels (CP), a chemical pretreatment was carried out, in order to evaluate its effectiveness in obtaining total reducing sugars (ART). A 23 factorial design of experiments was proposed, whose factors were: type of hydrolysis (acid, alkaline), concentration of the hydrolyzing agent (1.2% v/v) and reation time (30, 60 min). The highest ART content for the CP was 2.35 g/L and was obtained by working with 1 % NaOH. In CY, an ART concentration of 1.95 g/L was reached when using 2% H2SO4. For both residues, the best results were found with a reation time of 60 minutes. Through the ANOVA it was known that the factors by themselves do not exert a significant influence on the prodution of ART, although it was shown that there is an interation between them. The relationship that exists between the pretreatment methods used in the prodution of ART, is a preliminary step to fermentative processes through which it is possible to obtain a variety of bioproducts via biotechnology.]]></p></abstract>
