</abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en">
Abstract In recent decades, water use in livestock production has emerged as a significant topic within the discourse on sustainable food systems and competition for water resources. This research examines the relationship between productive variables and the water footprint in primary milk production on small-scale farms in the central zone of the department of Boyacá. A quantitative and correlational study was conducted involving 50 livestock systems primarily focused on milk production. The following parameters were assessed: the percentage of milking females, production per area, production per female, and stocking rate. The water footprint was estimated and categorized into three distinct types: blue, green, and gray. Data analysis was performed using RStudio, incorporating the Shapiro-Wilk test, Spearman's correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression analysis. The results revealed a Total Water Footprint of (x̄ 1.01 m3/L), a Blue Footprint of (x̄ 0.01 m3/L), a Green Footprint of (x̄ 0.19 m3/L), and a Gray Footprint of (x̄ 0.81 m3/L). The variables Percentage of Females, Productivity Kg/Female/Year, and Productivity Kg/Ha/Year exhibited the highest correlation coefficients, with the strongest correlation observed with the Blue Footprint. The findings suggest potential avenues for enhancing the environmental sustainability of dairy production through the implementation of efficient practices, particularly in relation to the animal component.
</abstract>
