Después del parto hasta la semana catorce, se evaluó el efecto de la suplementación energética-proteica y el sistema de amamantamiento sobre el peso y la condición corporal para lo cual se conformaron 4 tratamientos: T1 conformado por 4 vacas, suplementadas con 2 kilogramos de semilla de algodón y amamantamiento experimental; T2 conformado por 3 vacas, suplementadas con 2 kilogramos de semilla de algodón y amamantamiento tradicional; T3 conformado por 3 vacas, sin suplemento y amamantamiento experimental; T4 conformado por 3 vacas sin suplemento y amamantamiento tradicional. Se utilizó un diseño completamente al azar con arreglo factorial 2 x 2 y para el análisis de resultados se empleó análisis de varianza. No se presento efecto (P>0.05) de los tratamientos pre y posparto sobre el peso y la condición corporal de los animales, resultado en parte coincidente y en parte contrario a trabajos experimentales disponibles en la literatura consultada.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[In a farm, located in the Sinú Valley, department of Cordoba, with the objective of evaluating the effect of an supplementation whole cotton seed on the Body Weight (BW) and Body Condition Score (BCS) 30 days before calving, thirteen F1 Holstein X Zebu (HxZ) heifers, were divided into two groups: group 1 (G1), conformed by 7 heifers, which received, as well as grazing, 2 kg of whole cotton seed; group 2 (G2), conformed by 6 heifers, that only grazed. After calving till week 14, it was evaluated the effect of the supplementation with whole cotton seed and the suckling system on BW and BCS for witch 4 treatments were conformed: T1 conformed by four cows, supplemented with 2 Kg. of whole cotton seed and experimental suckling; T2 conformed by three cows, supplemented with 2 Kg. of whole cotton seed and traditional suckling; T3 conformed by three cows without supplementation and experimental suckling; T4 conformed by three cows without supplementation and traditional suckling. Este per&iacute;odo es    caracterizado por una disminuci&oacute;n en la ingesta de alimento (McNamara    et al. 2003), aumento en la movilizaci&oacute;n de tejidos grasos y elevaci&oacute;n    de los &aacute;cidos grasos no esterificados en sangre (Greenfield et al. 2000;    Cavestany et al. 2005), movilizaci&oacute;n proteica y cambios hormonales relacionados    con el parto y lactancia (Grummer et al. 1993). Un inadecuado manejo de esta    etapa puede ocasionar desordenes metab&oacute;licos (Goff y Horst 1997) y una    menor eficiencia reproductiva y productiva postparto. </p>     <p>Grummer et al. (1995), comunica que el efecto de la suplementaci&oacute;n proteica    durante el preparto y postparto temprano no ha sido adecuadamente investigado.    Sin embargo, la literatura reporta resultados contradictorios, algunos autores    (Putnam y Varga 1998) encontraron una mejora en el estado metab&oacute;lico    de la vaca y en la condici&oacute;n corporal (Van Saun et al. 1993); mientras    que otros (Grieenfield et al. 2000; Doepel et al 2002) reporta que aumentando    el nivel de prote&iacute;na en ganado de leche en el per&iacute;odo de transici&oacute;n    no mejora el desempe&ntilde;o reproductivo en la subsecuente lactaci&oacute;n.    Con respecto al amamantamiento, igualmente que la suplementaci&oacute;n, se    han presentado resultados contradictorios, algunos autores reportan efecto positivo    del amamantamiento sobre la perdida de peso y condici&oacute;n corporal (Schlink    et al. 1988; 1994; Sullivan et al. 1992; Das et al. 1999) mientras que otros    no han encontrado efecto (Short et al. 1972; Rayner et al. 1977; Ferreira et    al. 1990; Mancio et al. 1998, 1999; P&eacute;rez-Hern&aacute;ndez et al. 2002;    Sanz et al. 2003)    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<br>       <br>   El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar el efecto de la suplementaci&oacute;n    y el tipo de amamantamiento sobre el peso y condici&oacute;n corporal pre y    postparto en vacas prim&iacute;paras bajo el sistema de doble prop&oacute;sito.  </p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p><font size="3"> <b>MATERIALES Y M&Eacute;TODOS</b></font></p>     <p>El estudio fue realizado en una finca localizada en la vereda Cantarrana, Municipio    de San Carlos (C&oacute;rdoba), ubicada a 8 grados 45 minutos latitud norte    y 75 grados, 22 minutos longitud oeste, con una altura de 15 msnm, una precipitaci&oacute;n    media anual de 1100 mm, temperatura media anual de 27,5&ordm; C, humedad relativa    de 85%. El experimento se llev&oacute; a cabo durante el per&iacute;odo comprendido    entre el mes de septiembre de 2004 hasta el mes de abril de 2005. </p>     <p>Se utilizaron 13 novillas de vientre, F1 HxC, de buena condici&oacute;n corporal    (4) en el &uacute;ltimo tercio de la gestaci&oacute;n, seleccionadas mediante    palpaci&oacute;n rectal. Los animales en el preparto fueron distribuidos al    azar en dos grupos: G1 (n=7) que, adem&aacute;s de pastoreo, recibieron 2 Kg.    diarios/animal de semilla de algod&oacute;n en el periodo comprendido entre    6 semanas antes del parto hasta 14 semanas despu&eacute;s del parto. El grupo    G2 (n=6) s&oacute;lo tuvieron acceso al pastoreo sin suplementaci&oacute;n.    Se emple&oacute; un dise&ntilde;o completamente al azar. </p>     <p>Despu&eacute;s del parto, las vacas y los respectivos terneros fueron distribuidos    en cuatro grupos de tratamiento seg&uacute;n un esquema factorial 2x2 (nutrici&oacute;n    x amamantamiento) a saber: </p>     <p>T1 = Vacas suplementadas y amamantamiento experimental    <br>   T2 = vacas suplementadas y amamantamiento tradicional     <br>   T3 = vacas no suplementadas y amamantamiento experimental    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<br>   T4 = vacas no suplementadas y amamantamiento tradicional </p>     <p>El amamantamiento experimental consisti&oacute; en amamantar las cr&iacute;as    dos veces al d&iacute;a, durante 30 minutos, entre las 6 a 8 y a las 13 a 14    horas. Una vez terminado el amamantamiento, los terneros fueron separados de    las madres y llevados a potreros. En el amamantamiento tradicional, los terneros,    despu&eacute;s del orde&ntilde;o, pastoreaban con sus madres hasta las 13 a    14 horas a partir de la cual eran separados y llevados a potreros distintos.  </p>     <p>Los grupos experimentales fueron manejados bajo un sistema rotacional de praderas    con un per&iacute;odo de descanso de 24 d&iacute;as, un per&iacute;odo de permanencia    de un d&iacute;a, con disponibilidad de agua y sal mineralizada a voluntad.    Durante la &eacute;poca seca, todos los animales en estudio recibieron ensilaje    de pasto angleton (<i>Dichantium aristatum</i>) a raz&oacute;n de 10Kilos/animal/d&iacute;a    adem&aacute;s del pastoreo. </p>     <p>Las vacas fueron pesadas y adem&aacute;s, se estim&oacute; su la condici&oacute;n    corporal semanalmente un mes antes del parto, 24 horas despu&eacute;s del mismo    y semanalmente hasta los 98 d&iacute;as post-parto. El puntaje de la condici&oacute;n    corporal fue estimado individualmente por tres personas usando una escala de    1 a 5 y luego fue promediado. </p>     <p>Los datos fueron analizados por el procedimiento GML de SAS (Institute Inc.,    Cary, NC)usando el siguiente modelo estad&iacute;stico:</p>     <p>Y<sub>ijk</sub> = u + T<sub>j</sub> + B<sub>j</sub> + (T.B)<sub>ij</sub> +    E<sub>ijk</sub> </p>     <p>donde:</p>     <p>Y<sub>ijk</sub> = valor observado en el grupo experimental k, del nivel de    amamantamiento j, dentro de la categor&iacute;a de suplemento i.     <br>   m = media general    <br>   T<sub>i</sub> = Efecto de la categor&iacute;a de suplemento i.    ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<br>   B<sub>j</sub> = Efecto del sistema de amamantamiento j.    <br>   (T.B)<sub>ij</sub> = Interacci&oacute;n entre la categor&iacute;a de suplemento    i x sistema de amamantamiento j.    <br>   E<sub>ij</sub> = Error aleatorio asociado a cada observaci&oacute;n.</p>     <p>&nbsp;</p>     <p> <font size="3"><b>RESULTADOS Y DISCUSI&Oacute;N</b></font></p>     <p>No se present&oacute; efecto (P&gt;0.05) de la suplementaci&oacute;n con semilla    de algod&oacute;n durante el preparto sobre el peso o la condici&oacute;n corporal    (<a href="#tab1">tabla 1</a>, figura <a href="#fig1">1</a>,<a href="#fig2">2</a>).    A pesar que la pendiente de las curvas no fue diferente estad&iacute;sticamente;    el grupo que recibi&oacute; suplemento, mostr&oacute; una tendencia a incrementar    su peso al final de la gestaci&oacute;n, pero al no presentarse cambios en la    condici&oacute;n corporal, esta tendencia puede ser explicada como el resultado    de cambios fisiol&oacute;gicos asociados al crecimiento fetal y tejidos anexos    lo cual podr&iacute;a estar incrementando el peso corporal (Mcnamara et al.    2003; Dann et al. 1999; Greenfield et al. 2000; Holcomb et al. 2001; Keady et    al. 2001; Doepel et al. 2002; Rabelo et al 2003; Reist et al. 2003). De ser    cierta la explicaci&oacute;n dada anteriormente, es posible inferir que las    novillas no suplementadas mantuvieron el peso debido fundamentalmente al crecimiento    del feto.</p>     <p>    <center><a name="tab1"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08tab1.gif"></a></center></p>     <p>    <center><a name="fig1"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08fig1.gif"></a></center></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>    <center><a name="fig2"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08fig2.gif"></a></center></p>     <p> Resultados positivos a la suplementaci&oacute;n preparto fueron comunicados    por Grainger et al. (1982), Garnsworthy (1982), Ingvartsen et al. (1999), Mcnamara    et al. (2003), Agenas et al. (2003), en ganado de leche y con dietas de mayor    densidad energ&eacute;tica que las empleadas en este experimento, lo cual, en    parte, podr&iacute;a explicar la no respuesta a la suplementaci&oacute;n ofrecida.</p>     <p> Como se observa en la <a href="#tab2">tabla 2</a> y en las figuras <a href="#fig3">3</a>    y <a href="#fig4">4</a> todas las vacas perdieron peso y condici&oacute;n corporal    desde el momento del parto hasta la semana 14 posparto, no present&aacute;ndose    efecto de los tratamientos (P&gt;0.05) y no existiendo interacci&oacute;n entre    las categor&iacute;as de los tratamientos en estudios.</p>     <p>    <center><a name="tab2"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08tab2.gif"></a></center></p>     <p>    <center><a name="fig3"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08fig3.gif"></a></center></p>     <p>    <center><a name="fig4"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08fig4.gif"></a></center></p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>La p&eacute;rdida de peso y condici&oacute;n corporal al finalizar el experimento    fue para el amamantamiento experimental de 37kg y la condici&oacute;n corporal    disminuy&oacute; una unidad (1), respectivamente y para el amamantamiento tradicional    fue de 38kg y una unidad de condici&oacute;n corporal, respectivamente. </p>     <p>Estos resultados concuerdan con los reportados por Short et al. (1972); Rayner    et al. (1977); Ferreira et al. (1990); Mancio et al. (1998, 1999); Perez-Hern&aacute;ndez    et al. (2002); Sanz et al (2003) quienes encontraron que la perdida de peso    es similar para vacas utilizando diferentes tipos de amamantamiento. Por el    contrario estas observaciones son diferentes a las reportadas por Schlink et    al. (1988; 1994); Sullivan et al. (1992); Das et al. 1999) pero realizando destete    temprano o cr&iacute;a artificial han logrado reducir la p&eacute;rdida de peso    y condici&oacute;n corporal, lo que podr&iacute;a ser explicado por un ahorro    de energ&iacute;a y el balance energ&eacute;tico se hace positivo permitiendo    de esta manera menos requerimiento de nutrientes para estas vacas. </p>     <p> Igual a los resultados obtenidos con los tratamientos de amamantamiento, no    se present&oacute; efecto (P&gt;0.05) de la suplementaci&oacute;n sobre el peso    y la condici&oacute;n corporal desde el parto hasta la semana 14 posparto, coincidiendo    estos resultados con los comunicados por Triplett et al. (1995); Marston et    al. (1995); Dann et al. (1999); Greenfield et al. (2000); Keady et al. (2001);    Doepel et al. (2002) en ganado de leche con raciones de prote&iacute;na cruda    que var&iacute;a entre 12, 16, 17 y 12.5%. De forma similar, Reist et al. (2003);    Coffey et al (2004) reportaron mayor p&eacute;rdida de condici&oacute;n corporal    en raciones de bajo nivel energ&eacute;tico, indicando que m&aacute;s grasa    y prote&iacute;na corporal tuvo que ser movilizada con el fin de llenar los    requerimientos de prote&iacute;na y energ&iacute;a utilizada para producci&oacute;n.</p>     <p> La p&eacute;rdida de peso y condici&oacute;n corporal al finalizar el experimento    fue para el grupo suplementado de 41 Kg y 1 unidad, respectivamente, y para    el grupo no suplementado, de 32 Kg y 0.9 unidad, respectivamente, no present&aacute;ndose    diferencia estad&iacute;stica (P&gt;0.05) (figuras <a href="#fig5">5</a> y <a href="#fig6">6</a>).</p>     <p>    <center><a name="fig5"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08fig5.gif"></a></center></p>     <p>    <center><a name="fig6"><img src="img/revistas/mvz/v10n2/v10n2a08fig6.gif"></a></center></p>     <p>Las vacas suplementadas perdieron m&aacute;s condici&oacute;n corporal durante    las semanas 4 hasta la 12 (<a href="#fig6">figura 6</a>) pasaron de 3.4 a 2.8,    mientras que el peso cambi&oacute; poco. Esos cambios en la condici&oacute;n    corporal demuestran que el peso corporal es un estimativo impreciso del estado    de reservas corporales dado que la grasa corporal perdida es remplazada por    agua y pueden existir variaciones en el llenado intestinal. Los porcentajes    de perdida de peso corporal en el presente estudio fueron de 8,75%, a las 14    semanas, mientras que otros autores reportan 5% a las 8 semanas (Chilliard et    al. 1992); 11 a 14% a las 9 semanas (Dann et al. 1999); 3.7 y 6.4% a las cuatro    semanas (Agenas et al. 2003). Todos los grupos perdieron en promedio 40 Kg de    peso corporal entre la semana antes y la semana despu&eacute;s del parto, representados    principalmente en l&iacute;quidos y tejidos fetales. Por el contrario, Agenas    et al. (2003) en ganado de leche encontraron una p&eacute;rdida de 70 + 20 kg.  </p>     <p> Durante las primeras seis semanas de lactaci&oacute;n se observ&oacute; en    todos los grupos una r&aacute;pida p&eacute;rdida de peso y condici&oacute;n    corporal (15.8kg, 0.55 Und., respectivamente. Figuras <a href="#fig3">3</a>,    <a href="#fig4">4</a>, <a href="#fig5">5</a> y <a href="#fig6">6</a>). Esto    podr&iacute;a ser explicado por una disminuci&oacute;n en el consumo de materia    seca, como consecuencia de atrofia ruminal, sufrida en el periodo final de gestaci&oacute;n    y a cambios hormonales asociados con el parto y lactog&eacute;nesis (Garnsworthy    y Topps 1982; Maza et al. 1997; Lanna et al. 1995; Doepel et al. 2002; Rabelo    et al. 2003). En este mismo orden de ideas Dann et al. (1999); Doepel et al.    (2002) y Agenas et al. (2003), encontraron que la perdida de peso fue mayor    hasta la 4 semana de lactaci&oacute;n, contrario a lo observado en el presente    estudio; lo que podr&iacute;a ser explicado en que los autores trabajaron con    vacas mult&iacute;paras mientras que en este estudio se utilizaron vacas de    primer parto, lo que probablemente se relaciona con un incremento en los requerimientos    para crecimiento y simult&aacute;neamente con la demanda de lactaci&oacute;n    y su baja capacidad de ingesta (Remond et al. 1991; Gallo et al. 1996; Cavestany    et al 2001; 2005), indicando que la recuperaci&oacute;n de peso y condici&oacute;n    corporal sea m&aacute;s tard&iacute;a en estos animales. </p>     ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>A partir de la semana 6 en adelante se observa una ligera recuperaci&oacute;n    en la p&eacute;rdida de peso corporal (figuras <a href="#fig3">3</a>, <a href="#fig4">4</a>,    <a href="#fig5">5</a> y <a href="#fig6">6</a>), lo que podr&iacute;a ser explicado    por una recuperaci&oacute;n de la ingesta de alimento, llenado y funcionalidad    ruminal, explicaci&oacute;n que coincide con lo comunicado por Agenas et al.    (2003); Mcnamara et al. (2003) y Holter et al. (1990). </p>     <p>La suplementaci&oacute;n de semilla de algod&oacute;n y en las cantidades suministradas    en este experimento no tuvo efecto diferencial con vacas no suplementadas tanto    en la ganancia de peso en el preparto ni en la p&eacute;rdida de peso desde    el parto hasta la semana 14 posparto, por lo tanto es de suponer que es necesario    incrementar lo niveles de suplementaci&oacute;n o la densidad energ&eacute;tica    y proteica del suplemento para obtener resultados m&aacute;s favorables especialmente    en condiciones posparto, lo cual debe ser objeto de futuras investigaciones.  </p>     <p>Tampoco, se encontr&oacute; efecto del amamantamiento y de su interacci&oacute;n    con la suplementaci&oacute;n sobre el peso y la condici&oacute;n corporal hasta    la semana 14 posparto.
