El presente estudio investigó los efectos de la suplementación dietética con biotina sobre el rendimiento, la calidad del huevo y la capacidad antioxidante de la yema en codornices ponedoras.  Material y métodos. Un total de 150 codornices hembras (11 semanas de edad) fueron asignadas a cinco grupos dietéticos, que recibieron 0, 0.075, 0.150, 0.300 o 0.450 mg/kg de biotina durante 70 días.  Resultados. La suplementación con biotina redujo linealmente el peso corporal y aumentó la producción de huevos de las codornices (p&lt;0.01). La resistencia a la rotura de la cáscara de huevo mejoró cuadráticamente, alcanzando un máximo a 0,300 mg/kg (p&lt;0.01). El índice de yema disminuyó cuadráticamente, mientras que los parámetros de color de la yema (L* y a*) y el estado antioxidante (DPPH y MDA en la yema) respondieron linealmente a los niveles de biotina en la dieta (p&lt;0.01).  Conclusiones. Los resultados sugieren que las necesidades de biotina para las codornices ponedoras superan las recomendaciones actuales, siendo 0.300-0.450 mg/kg el nivel óptimo para el rendimiento y las propiedades antioxidantes.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT  Objective. The current research investigated the effects of dietary biotin supplementation on performance, egg quality, and yolk antioxidant capacity in laying quails.  Material and methods. A total of 150 female quails (11 weeks old) were assigned to five dietary groups, receiving 0, 0.075, 0.150, 0.300, or 0.450 mg/kg of biotin over 70 days.  Results. Biotin supplementation linearly decreased body weight while increasing egg production in quails (p&lt;0.01). Eggshell-breaking resistance improved quadratically, peaking at 0.300 mg/kg (p&lt;0.01). Yolk index declined quadratically, whereas yolk colour parameters (L* and a*) and antioxidant status (DPPH and MDA in yolk) responded linearly to biotin levels (p&lt;0.01). Conclusions. The findings suggest that biotin requirements for laying quails exceed current recommendations, with an optimal range of 0.300-0.450 mg/kg for both performance and antioxidant properties.]]></p></abstract>
