El Grupo Intergubernamental de Expertos sobre el Cambio Climático lo ha dejado claro: medio grado más de calentamiento en nuestro planeta marcará la diferencia entre la vida y la muerte. En ese contexto, la comunicación sobre el cambio climático resulta de vital importancia para generar el compromiso individual y de los gobiernos para combatir este problema, que se acentúa, sobre todo, por acción de las actividades humanas en el planeta. Esta investigación pretende adentrarse en las áreas de la psicología emocional y la comunicación ambiental para explicar la popularidad de contenidos sobre cambio climático en YouTube. Usando videos que abordan la temática medioambiental, las autoras examinan cómo las emociones que producen activación fisiológica desembocan en la difusión masiva. Los resultados indican que, independientemente de la valencia de los videos, es decir, de si son considerados positivos o negativos, estos pueden llegar a ser populares en la medida en que impulsen la activación fisiológica de los espectadores. Este hallazgo arroja luz sobre por qué las personas comparten contenidos medioambientales y cómo diseñar campañas de lucha contra el cambio climático.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Climate change is the most significant environmental challenge of the century. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change has clarified that a half-a-degree Celsius warmer Earth will mean the difference between life and death. Against this backdrop, communication on climate change is of paramount importance to make individual and government commitments to combat this problem, accentuated above all by the action of human activities. This research aims to delve into emotional psychology and environmental communication to explain the popularity of climate change content on YouTube. Using videos that address environmental issues, the authors examine how emotions that produce physiological arousal result in mass diffusion. The results indicate that, regardless of the valence of videos (i.e., whether considered positive or negative), they can become popular to the extent that they promote viewers&#8217; physiological arousal. This finding sheds light on why people share environmental content and how to design campaigns to fight climate change.]]></p></abstract>

O Painel Intergovernamental sobre Mudança do Clima deixa claro: meio grau a mais de aquecimento em nosso planeta marcará a diferença entre a vida e a morte. Nesse contexto, a comunicação sobre a mudança climática é de vital importância para gerar o compromisso individual e governamental para combater esse problema, que se agrava, principalmente, por ação das atividades humanas no mundo. Esta pesquisa pretende aprofundar-se nas áreas da psicologia emocional e da comunicação ambiental para explicar a popularidade de conteúdo sobre a mudança do clima no YouTube. A partir de vídeos que abordam a temática meio ambiental, as autoras analisam como as emoções que produzem ativação fisiológica desembocam na difusão massiva. Os resultados indicam que, independentemente da avaliação dos vídeos, isto é, de se são considerados positivos ou negativos, eles podem chegar a ser populares na medida em que impulsionem a ativação fisiológica dos espectadores. Esse achado esclarece por que as pessoas compartilham conteúdo meio ambiental e como elaborar campanhas de luta contra a mudança climática.]]></p></abstract>
