DC. (Fabales: Fabaceae) presenta legumbres con granos de color blanco y su cultivo se ha desarrollado con fines de consumo humano, forraje de alto valor nutritivo y como abono verde para determinados suelos. Los estudios de entomofauna asociados a esta destacada planta son muy escasos. El objetivo del trabajo fue identificar las especies de trips asociadas a flores de C. ensiformis en Coclé, República de Panamá. Los muestreos se realizaron cada dos semanas desde noviembre del 2021 hasta febrero del 2022, en la localidad de Río Hato en la provincia de Coclé, República de Panamá. El estudio se desarrolló en una superficie plantada de C. ensiformis estimada en 1000 m2, con la finalidad de ser utilizada como abono verde, donde se establecieron 10 puntos distribuidos en zigzag a una distancia de 10 metros de distancia entre cada uno. En cada punto fue seleccionada una inflorescencia por planta que se ingresó en un vial de vidrio de 4 Dram con tapa, conteniendo alcohol al 95%. Los ejemplares de trips recolectados fueron contados e identificados sobre la base de preparaciones microscópicas y claves de identificación específicas. Se cita por primera vez la presencia de las especies Frankliniella cephalica (Crawford), Frankliniella gossypina Hood, Frankliniella insularis (Franklin) y Frankliniella williamsi Hood de Thripidae (Insecta: Thysanoptera) en inflorescencias de C. ensiformisen Panamá y se amplía el número de plantas hospederas de estas especies de trips en América. Durante los cuatro meses de estudio F. insularis fue la especie más abundante.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Canavalia ensiformis (L.) DC. (Fabales: Fabaceae) exhibits legumes with white grains. Its cultivation has been developed for human consumption, forage with high nutritional value, and as green manure for certain soils. Entomofauna studies associated with this outstanding plant are very scarce. Entomofauna studies associated with this outstanding plant are very scarce. The objective of the work was to identify the species of thrips associated with flowers of C. ensiformis Coclé, Republic of Panama. The samplings were carried out every two weeks from November 2021 to February 2022, in the town of Río Hato in the province of Coclé, Republic of Panama. The study was carried out on an area planted with C. ensiformis estimated at 1 000 m2, with the purpose of being used as green manure, where 10 points distributed in a zig-zag were established at a distance of 10 meters from each other. At each point, one inflorescence per plant was selected and placed in a 4 Dram glass vial with a lid containing 95% alcohol. The collected thrips specimens were counted and identified based on microscopic preparations and specific identification keys. The presence of the species Frankliniella cephalica (Crawford), Frankliniella gossypina Hood, Frankliniella insularis (Franklin) and Frankliniella williamsi Hood of the family Thripidae (Insecta: Thysanoptera) in inflorescences of C. ensiformis in Panama is reported for the first time, and the number of host plants of these thrips species in America has increased. During the four months of study, F. insularis was the most abundant species.]]></p></abstract>
