One important tool in population genetics is the use of microsatellite molecular markers. Cross-amplification of microsatellite is a method that consists in using primers designed for one species in a different one but phylogenetically related. Because of the importance of genetic studies of populations in artisanal fisheries species, primers were evaluated and designed for the species Haemulon aurolineatum and Haemulon steindachneri. Samples were collected from the artisanal fisheries in Baru-Colombia. Amplification was standardized for 12 microsatellites which ten were polymorphic for H. aurolineatum and nine for H. steindachneri. It is considered that the primers implemented in this study are useful for future studies of gene flow in these species.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Las investigaciones genético-poblacionales en peces marinos han permitido estudiar los patrones de dispersión y la conectividad entre los hábitats. Dentro de esos estudios una herramienta importante son los marcadores moleculares tipo microsatélite. La amplificación cruzada de microsatélites es un método que consiste en usar cebadores diseñados para una especie en otra especie filogenéticamente cercana. Debido a la necesidad de realizar estudios de genética de poblaciones en especies de importancia pesquera se evaluaron y diseñaron cebadores para las especies Haemulon aurolineatum y Haemulon steindachneri. Se recolectaron muestras producto de la pesca artesanal en Barú-Colombia. Se estandarizó la amplificación de 12 microsatélites de los cuales 10 loci para H. aurolineatum y 9 loci para H. steindachneri fueron polimórficos. Se considera que los cebadores implementados en este estudio son útiles para futuros estudios de flujo génico en estas especies.]]></p></abstract>
