In the national and world context, it is framed in five conservation figures, which make it an area of &#8203;&#8203;special interest for basic and applied research. Currently communicates with the sea through the Boca de la Barra; this mouth has had in the last 65 years one morphological dynamics with a series of trends in the configuration of the coastline. The objective of this research was to study the changes in the coastline between the period 1953 to 2020 and approximate a relationship with El Niño Southern Oscillation events (ENSO) and the intrannual variation of rainfall at local level. The results were obtained using satellite images, aerial photographs and the subsequent digitization of coastlines to generate change rates using the DSAS. The results show long-term cyclic processes of erosion and accretion, which reflect a morphological balance in the Boca de la Barra area, however, the manifestation of ENSO events and periods of strong drought affect the domain of coastal erosion.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN L a Ciénaga Grande de Santa Marta (CGSM) es uno de los ecosistemas más productivos del Caribe colombiano. En el contexto nacional y mundial se encuentra enmarcada en cinco figuras de conservación, que la convierte en un área de especial interés para la investigación básica y aplicada. Actualmente se comunica con el mar a través de la Boca de la Barra; está desembocadura ha tenido en los últimos 65 años una dinámica morfológica con una serie de tendencias en la configuración de la línea de costa. La presente investigación tuvo como objetivo estudiar los cambios de la línea de costa en el período 1953 a 2020 y aproximar una relación con eventos El Niño oscilación del sur (ENOS) y la variación intra-anual de la precipitación a nivel local. Los resultados se obtuvieron mediante imágenes de satélite, fotografías aéreas y la posterior digitalización de líneas de costa para la generación de las tasas de cambio con la herramienta DSAS. Los resultados evidencian procesos cíclicos de erosión y acreción a largo plazo, que reflejan un balance morfológico en el área de la Boca de la Barra; no obstante, la manifestación de eventos ENOS y períodos de fuerte sequía inciden en el dominio de la erosión costera.]]></p></abstract>
