The data were taken with a differential global positioning system to generate digital elevation models and beach profiles between 2014 and 2019. Subsequently, a morphodynamic classification was performed using the parameters of dimensionless fall speed and relative amplitude of the tides. The results indicated that the predominant beach types were dominated and modified by the tide: dissipative type (modified by tides, dominated by tides and erosive) and intermediate (modified by tides and non-erosive). Reflective profiles were observed in front of the beach (erosive season) in 2014 and 2015. Although the studied beach is located in the tropics, the results do not differ from those proposed for mid-latitude beaches. The results suggest the dominance of the tidal range in the determination of the morphodynamic states of the beach. This study shows that La Bocana beach has different spatiotemporal morphodynamic states, that is, there is no single representative beach state. Six years of data show intra-annual (seasonal) variations or under certain environmental conditions which significantly change the beaches.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Este estudio analiza la morfodinámica de la playa La Bocana en el Pacífico tropical colombiano, en un régimen macromareal. Los datos se tomaron con un sistema de posicionamiento global diferencial para generar modelos digitales de elevación y perfiles de playa entre 2014 y 2019. Posteriormente, se realizó una clasificación morfodinámica utilizando los parámetros de velocidad de caída adimensional y amplitud relativa de las mareas. Los resultados indican que los tipos de playa predominantes fueron dominados y modificados por la marea tipo disipativas (modificadas por mareas, dominadas por mareas y erosivas) e intermedias (modificadas por mareas y no erosivas). Se observaron perfiles reflectantes frente a la playa (época erosiva) en 2014 y 2015. A pesar de que la playa estudiada se localiza en el trópico, los resultados no difieren con los propuestos para playas de latitudes medias. Los resultados sugieren el dominio del rango mareal en la determinación de los estados morfodinámicos de la playa. Este estudio muestra que la playa La Bocana tiene diferentes estados morfodinámicos espacio-temporales, es decir que no existe un único estado de playa representativo. Seis años de datos muestran variaciones intranuales (estacionales) o bajo ciertas condiciones ambientales, las cuales cambian significativamente las playas.]]></p></abstract>
