This study evaluated how its community responds to physicochemical and seasonal variations at five stations of the river: Catapalla, San Jerónimo, Socsi, Puente Clarita, and Boca del Río, during rainy and dry seasons. Parameters such as pH, dissolved oxygen, conductivity, total dissolved solids, temperature, as well as NO3 -, NH4 +, and phosphorus were measured. Macroinvertebrates were identified at the family level and indices of richness, dominance, density, and similarity were analyzed. Univariate and multivariate analyses, such as ANOVA and PCA, showed significant differences between stations and seasons, especially in Catapalla and Boca del Río. Two groups of stations were identified based on the similarity in their biological composition: one consisting of Catapalla, San Jerónimo, and Socsi, and another of Puente Clarita and Boca del Río. Dissolved oxygen and temperature positively influence abundance and richness, while high levels of dissolved solids, ammonium, and phosphorus have negative effects. Furthermore, some families, such as Tricorythidae, appeared only in the rainy season, demonstrating the effect of seasonality on aquatic biodiversity.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Los macroinvertebrados son bioindicadores sensibles a cambios estacionales y a la calidad del agua. Este estudio evaluó cómo responde su comunidad ante variaciones fisicoquímicas y estacionales en cinco estaciones del río Cañete: Catapalla, San Jerónimo, Socsi, Puente Clarita y Boca del Río, durante temporadas lluviosa y seca. Se midieron variables como pH, oxígeno disuelto, conductividad, sólidos disueltos totales, temperatura, además de NO3 -, NH4 + y fósforo. Los macroinvertebrados se identificaron a nivel de familia y se analizaron índices de riqueza, dominancia, densidad y similaridad. Análisis univariados y multivariados, como ANDEVA y ACP, mostraron diferencias significativas entre estaciones y temporadas, especialmente en Catapalla y Boca del Río. Se identificaron dos grupos de estaciones según la similitud en su composición biológica: uno conformado por Catapalla, San Jerónimo y Socsi y otro por Puente Clarita y Boca del Río. El oxígeno disuelto y la temperatura influyen positivamente en la abundancia y riqueza, mientras que altos niveles de sólidos disueltos, amonio y fósforo tienen efectos negativos. Además, algunas familias, como Tricorythidae, se presentaron solo en temporada lluviosa, evidenciando el efecto de la estacionalidad sobre la biodiversidad acuática.]]></p></abstract>
