(Cymodoceaceae) in the Mar Muerto coastal lagoon, located in the southern Mexican Pacific. Seven localities were surveyed in the states of Oaxaca and Chiapas, including the first confirmed record for Oaxaca supported by herbarium specimens. These are the only known records with physical records and geographic coordinates within a coastal stretch of approximately 2,900 km, lacking previous confirmed reports, between northwestern Mexico and Central America. The meadows were located in shallow areas, with an average salinity of 33.06 and temperature of 31.4 °C. The area occupied by patches was estimated to be approximately 17.7 km². The average leaf height was 10.3 cm, and shoot density reached up to 1,724 shoots m². The morphological characteristics of the specimens matched diagnostic descriptions for the species. This work contributes to the understanding of seagrass distribution in a region where their presence has been poorly documented. Continued ecological and monitoring studies are recommended to assess the functional role of these meadows in estuarine ecosystems of southern Mexico.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[RESUMEN Se documenta por primera vez la presencia del pasto marino Halodule wrightii Asch. (Cymodoceaceae) en la laguna costera Mar Muerto, en el Pacífico sur de México. Se registraron siete localidades en los estados de Oaxaca y Chiapas, incluyendo el primer registro confirmado mediante especímenes herborizados para el estado de Oaxaca. Estos son los únicos registros conocidos con respaldo físico y coordenadas geográficas dentro de un tramo costero de aproximadamente 2,900 km, sin reportes previos verificables, entre el noroeste de México y América Central. Las praderas se localizaron en zonas someras con salinidad promedio de 33.06 y temperatura de 31.4 °C. Se estimó un área cubierta por parches de aproximadamente 17.7 km². La altura promedio de las hojas fue de 10.3 cm y la densidad alcanzó hasta 1724 haces m². Las características morfológicas coincidieron con descripciones diagnósticas de la especie. Este trabajo representa una contribución al conocimiento de los pastos marinos en una región donde su distribución ha sido poco documentada. Se recomienda continuar con estudios ecológicos y de monitoreo para valorar el papel funcional de estas praderas en los ecosistemas estuarinos del sur de México.]]></p></abstract>
