The sediments were collected fortnightly for five months, from the two sand traps of the constructed wetland of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá. We collected the sediments with traps specially designed for the study site. The results show a mean diameter (D50) of 128 &#956;m, mean concentrations of Cr = 36 mg/kg, Cu = 115 mg/kg, Pb = 273 mg/kg and Zn = 1173 mg/kg. We found a relationship between rainfall and sediment characteristics, which eventually could guide practices for sediment usages: (i) a reduced number of dry days is related to higher particle diameters and lower concentrations of metals; (ii) higher magnitudes of rainfall intensities and total heights are related to a lower number of particles with large grain sizes reaching the sand traps.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen El objetivo de este trabajo fue establecer posibles relaciones entre características de lluvias y características físicas y químicas de sedimentos en una cuenca experimental ubicada en la ciudad de Bogotá (región tropical altoandina). Los sedimentos se recolectaron en periodos quincenales durante cinco meses, en los dos desarenadores del humedal construido de la Pontifica Universidad Javeriana, Bogotá. La recolección de sedimentos se realizó con trampas especialmente diseñadas para el sitio de estudio. Los resultados muestran un diámetro medio (D50) de 128 µm, concentraciones medias de Cr = 36 mg/kg, Cu = 115 mg/kg, Pb = 273 mg/kg y Zn = 1173 mg/kg. Se encontró una relación entre la precipitación y las características de los sedimentos, lo cual puede guiar eventuales prácticas de utilización de sedimentos: (i) un menor número de días de tiempo seco se relaciona con mayores tamaños de partículas y menores concentraciones de metales; (ii) mayores magnitudes de intensidad y de altura total de lluvia se relacionan con una menor cantidad de partículas de grano grueso que llegan a los desarenadores.]]></p></abstract>
