Por ello, este estudio tuvo como objetivo realizar un análisis de la relación entre la calidad del aire y la incidencia de enfermedades respiratorias en el municipio de Cúcuta. Gracias a la aplicación de una metodología cuantitativa y descriptiva con enfoque correlacional, se diseñó una Encuesta de Percepción Ciudadana. Además, se analizaron las concentraciones del material particulado (PM10) de las zonas El Salado y Atalaya; junto con el análisis de la carga de morbilidad de acuerdo a los registros otorgados por el Instituto Municipal de Salud (IMSALUD) y el Instituto Departamental de Salud (IDS). Los resultados, muestran una asociación dependiente entre las variables de estudio. Adicionalmente, muestra una tendencia significativa por Rinofaringitis aguda en pacientes vulnerables (niños y adultos mayores) y un estado de calidad del aire desfavorable de los meses evaluados (mayo-julio/2018).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Air pollution is one of the most significant environmental problems regarding public health in Colombia. Therefore, the objective of this study was to analyze the relationship between air quality and the incidence of respiratory diseases in the municipality of Cucuta. Through the application of a quantitative and descriptive methodology with a correlational approach, a Citizen Perception Survey was designed. Besides, the concentrations of particulate matter (PM10) in areas from El Salado and Atalaya were analyzed, along with the analysis of the burden of disease according to the records provided by (IMSALUD) and (IDS). The results show a dependent association between the study variables. Additionally, it shows a significant trend for acute Rhinopharyngitis in vulnerable patients (children and older adults) and an unfavorable air quality status of the evaluated months (May-July/2018)]]></p></abstract>
