Materials and methods:  384 male one-day-old chickens were raised until day 36. A total of 192 chickens were sampled, 96 at day 21 and 96 at day 36; the tibial dyschondroplasia disorder was evaluated by comparing two techniques: 1. Qualitative evaluation of the score of tibial dyschondroplasia and, 2. Quantitative measurement of the percentage of area with tibial dyschondroplasia as an alternative test.  Results:  the Score test of TD lesions had a sensitivity of 83% and 100% with a specificity of 55% and 54% for day 21 and day 36 respectively, and a positive predictive value of 60% for day 21 and of 66% for day 36, while the negative predictive value was 80% and 100% for days 21 and 36.  Conclusions:  The evaluated alternative test proved to be an effective and efficient method of quantification of tibial dyschondroplasia in broiler chickens, offering more objectivity than the traditional macroscopic test.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen  Objetivo:  Comparar la eficacia de la técnica de score de las lesiones de discondroplasia tibial con una técnica de cuantificación en pollos de engorde, en búsqueda de una mejor objetividad y confiabilidad del diagnóstico.  Materiales y métodos:  Se criaron 384 pollos machos, de un día de edad, los cuales fueron criados hasta el día 36. Fue muestreado un total de 192 pollos, 96 al día 21 y 96 al día 36 de edad de las aves, a las cuales se les evaluó el estado de discondroplasia tibial comparando dos técnicas: 1. Evaluación Cualitativa del Score de discondroplasia tibial y, 2. Medición Cuantitativa del porcentaje de área con discondroplasia tibial como prueba alterna.  Resultados:  Se obtuvo que la prueba del Score de las lesiones de DT tuvo una sensibilidad del 83% y del 100% con una especificidad del 55% y 54% para el día 21 y 36 de edad respectivamente; y un valor predictivo positivo para el día 21 del 60% y para el día 36 del 66%, mientras que el valor predictivo negativo fue del 80% y del 100% para los días 21 y 36 de edad.  Conclusiones:  La prueba alterna evaluada, demostró ser un método eficaz y eficiente de cuantificación de discondroplasia tibial en pollos de engorde, ofreciendo mayor objetividad que la prueba macroscópica tradicional.]]></p></abstract>
