En este sentido, se analizó el efecto de los cultivos intercalados y unicultivos de yuca, maní y maíz, sobre los índices de crecimiento y uso equivalente de la tierra (UET). Los resultados mostraron que la yuca presentó una mayor tasa de crecimiento absoluto en los cultivos intercalados en comparación con el unicultivo, a las 12, 24 y 36 semanas después de la siembra (SDS). Por otro lado, el maní mostró los mayores valores de la tasa relativa de crecimiento a las 4 SDS y disminuyó a lo largo del tiempo. En cuanto al maíz, el unicultivo tuvo una tasa de asimilación neta más alta, desde las 4 SDS hasta las 12 SDS. En términos del UET, el sistema de cultivo maíz y yuca resultó ser el más eficiente, con un valor de 1,30, seguido del cultivo intercalado de yuca, maní y maíz con 1,24, indicando un uso óptimo de la tierra y una mayor producción de los cultivos; en contraste, el cultivo intercalado de maní y maíz fue el menos eficiente, con 0,59, valor inferior al UET de los unicultivos. Los cultivos intercalados de yuca, maní y maíz tienen el potencial de estimular el crecimiento, mejorar la eficiencia fisiológica y optimizar el uso de la tierra en comparación con los unicultivos, siempre y cuando se planifiquen adecuadamente, para aprovechar las interacciones beneficiosas entre las especies.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[ABSTRACT Intercropping offers significant benefits for agriculture by fixing nitrogen, protecting against pests and diseases, and optimizing production. In this sense, the effect of intercropping and uni-cultivation of cassava, peanut, and corn on growth rates and equivalent land use (ELU) was analyzed. The results showed that cassava presented a higher absolute growth rate in intercropping compared to uni-cultivation at 12, 24, and 36 weeks after planting (WAP). On the other hand, peanut showed the highest values of relative growth rate at 4WAP and decreased over time. As for corn, uni-cultivation had a higher net assimilation rate from 4 WAP to 12 WAP. In terms of ELU, the maize-cassava intercropping system was the most efficient, with a value of 1.30, followed by the intercropping of cassava, peanut, and maize with 1.24, indicating optimal land use and higher crop production; in contrast, the intercropping of peanut and maize was the least efficient, with 0.59, a value lower than the ELU of the uni-cultivars. The intercropping of cassava, peanut, and maize has the potential to stimulate growth, improve physiological efficiency, and optimize land use compared to uni-cultivation, provided it is properly planned to take advantage of beneficial interactions between species.]]></p></abstract>
