Materiais e Métodos Para verificar a idade biológica observaram-se os estágios de desenvolvimento da genitália externa. As outras características avaliadas foram: massa corporal total (MCT), a estatura e o índice de massa corporal (IMC), idade óssea (IO), força, velocidade, agilidade e potência aeróbica. Resultados Os resultados demonstraram diferenças significativas em todas as variáveis ligadas ao crescimento (idade cronológica, estatura, massa corporal total, índice de massa corporal e idade óssea) entre os diferentes estágios de maturação sexual. Em relação às qualidades físicas, entre os estágios maturacionais, encontraram-se diferenças significativas na maioria dos parâmetros avaliados, com exceção da agilidade. Conclusão Conclui-se com este estudo, que a maturação sexual avaliada através dos estágios de desenvolvimento da genitália externa exerceu grande influência sobre variáveis antropométricas, a idade óssea e as qualidades físicas básicas dos adolescentes avaliados.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Objective The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of sexual maturation on anthropometric parameters and basic physical characteristics in male adolescents aged from ten to fourteen years old. Materials and Methods The biological age was studied through the evaluation of the stage of the external genitalia development. Other evaluated characteristics were: total body mass (MCT), stature, body mass index (BMI), bone age (IO), strength, speed, agility and aerobic power. Results The results showed significant differences in all variables related to growth (chronological age, height, total body mass, body mass index and bone age) between different stages of sexual maturation. In relation to physical qualities, among maturational stages, we find significant differences in most characteristics, except for agility. Conclusions Based on this study, we may conclude that sexual maturation, evaluated by the stages of development of the external genitalia, exerts great influence on the anthropometric variables, the bone age and the basic physical characteristics of adolescent boys.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Objetivo El objetivo de este estudio fue evaluar los efectos de la maduración sexual en los parámetros antropométricos y del rendimiento atlético de adolescentes del género masculino, de 10 a 14 años de edad. Materiales y Métodos Para la evaluación de la edad biológica se realizó el análisis de la etapa de desarrollo de los genitales externos. Otras características evaluadas fueron: masa corporal total (MCT), talla, índice de masa corporal (IMC), edad ósea (IO), fuerza, velocidad, agilidad y potencia aeróbica. Resultados Los resultados mostraron diferencias significativas en todas las variables relacionadas con el crecimiento (edad cronológica, la talla, la masa corporal total, índice de masa corporal y la edad ósea) entre las diferentes etapas de maduración sexual. En relación con las cualidades físicas en las etapas de maduración, encontramos diferencias significativas en la mayoría de las características, a excepción de la agilidad. Conclusiones Se concluye que la maduración sexual evaluada a través de las etapas del desarrollo de los genitales externos tiene gran influencia sobre las variables antropométricas, la edad ósea y el rendimiento atlético de adolescentes.]]></p></abstract>

As outras caracter&iacute;sticas avaliadas foram: massa corporal total (MCT), a estatura e o &iacute;ndice de massa corporal (IMC), idade &oacute;ssea (IO), for&ccedil;a, velocidade, agilidade e pot&ecirc;ncia aer&oacute;bica.</p>      <p><B>Resultados</B> Os resultados demonstraram diferen&ccedil;as significativas em todas as vari&aacute;veis ligadas ao crescimento (idade cronol&oacute;gica, estatura, massa corporal total, &iacute;ndice de massa corporal e idade &oacute;ssea) entre os diferentes est&aacute;gios de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual. Todavia, nem sempre &eacute; poss&iacute;vel comparar o desempenho entre jovens com base na IC (4), uma vez que o desempenho e a composi&ccedil;&atilde;o corporal est&atilde;o intimamente ligados ao desenvolvimento biol&oacute;gico (maturacional) (5). A matura&ccedil;&atilde;o est&aacute; relacionada &agrave; evolu&ccedil;&atilde;o ao estado morfol&oacute;gico e funcional do adulto (6) e varia entre os adolescentes no que diz respeito &agrave; idade em que se instala bem como &agrave; velocidade em que ocorre essa progress&atilde;o (7-12)</p>      <p>A observa&ccedil;&atilde;o do status maturacional de crian&ccedil;as e adolescentes &eacute; de grande import&acirc;ncia para os profissionais que trabalham com este p&uacute;blico, pois ao incluir jovens em diferentes est&aacute;gios de desenvolvimento num mesmo treinamento, competi&ccedil;&atilde;o ou exame de sele&ccedil;&atilde;o de uma equipe, tende-se a beneficiar aqueles com matura&ccedil;&atilde;o precoce, uma vez que os mesmos possuem tend&ecirc;ncia a obter melhor desempenho f&iacute;sico (13,14). Dessa forma, a utiliza&ccedil;&atilde;o da IC como &uacute;nico par&acirc;metro para a observa&ccedil;&atilde;o da prontid&atilde;o esportiva de crian&ccedil;as e adolescentes, pode acarretar erros na avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o e no planejamento esportivo e levar a problemas f&iacute;sicos e psicol&oacute;gicos (15).</p>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>Uma das formas de se conhecer o desenvolvimento maturacional &eacute; atrav&eacute;s da avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o das caracter&iacute;sticas sexuais secund&aacute;rias (6), metodologia que tem sido utilizada em v&aacute;rios estudos com crian&ccedil;as e adolescentes (16-19). Em indiv&iacute;duos do sexo masculino, a avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o do desenvolvimento puberal &eacute; realizada atrav&eacute;s da observa&ccedil;&atilde;o do desenvolvimento dos p&ecirc;los pubianos e da genit&aacute;lia externa, sendo o crit&eacute;rio proposto por Marshall &amp; Tanner, o mais adotado (20).</p>      <p>O objetivo do presente estudo foi avaliar os efeitos da matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual sobre par&acirc;metros antropom&eacute;tricos e qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas em adolescentes do sexo masculino.</p>      <P align="center"><b>MATERAIS E M&Eacute;TODOS</b></p>      <p>Indiv&iacute;duos inscritos no projeto &ldquo;Bom de Bola Bom de Escola&rdquo;, da Associa&ccedil;&atilde;o Municipal de Apoio Comunit&aacute;rio (AMAC), da cidade de Juiz de Fora, Minas Gerais, Brasil foram convidados a participar desse estudo transversal.</p>      <p>Foram selecionados os adolescentes do sexo masculino, na faixa et&aacute;ria de 10 a 14 anos, que participavam de atividades recreativas de futebol de campo, com uma hora de dura&ccedil;&atilde;o, bissemanal, sob supervis&atilde;o de um treinador, inscritos no referido programa, no ano de 2006, por ocasi&atilde;o de sua admiss&atilde;o no projeto. Ap&oacute;s a assinatura do termo de consentimento por parte dos respons&aacute;veis, cada indiv&iacute;duo foi submetido &agrave; coleta dos dados antropom&eacute;tricos, avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o das qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas, avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o m&eacute;dica al&eacute;m de exame radiol&oacute;gico para determina&ccedil;&atilde;o da idade &oacute;ssea.</p>      <p>Na primeira visita, foram tomadas &agrave;s medidas antropom&eacute;tricas. Para avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o da antropometria foram obtidos a massa corporal total (MCT), a estatura e o &iacute;ndice de massa corporal (IMC), calculado atrav&eacute;s da raz&atilde;o entre a MCT e a estatura elevada ao quadrado. As medidas da massa corporal total e da estatura foram realizadas em balan&ccedil;a de consult&oacute;rio com estadi&ocirc;metro Welmy<Sup>&reg;</Sup> modelo 110, utilizando-se aproxima&ccedil;&atilde;o de 100 gramas para a MCT e 1 mil&iacute;metro para a estatura. Os indiv&iacute;duos eram avaliados sem sapatos e portando somente short.</p>      <p>Na segunda visita, foram avaliadas as qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas. Os testes f&iacute;sicos de for&ccedil;a, velocidade e agilidade foram realizados em uma quadra poliesportiva e o de pot&ecirc;ncia aer&oacute;bica ao redor de um campo de futebol. Foram utilizados o teste de impuls&atilde;o horizontal proposto por Johnson &amp; Nelson (21), o teste de corrida de 30 metros de Popov (apud 22), o teste <I>Shuttle Run</I>, 10x5 metros (23) e o teste de corrida de 1000 metros, de Klissouras (apud 24), para avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o da for&ccedil;a, da velocidade, da agilidade e da pot&ecirc;ncia aer&oacute;bica, respectivamente. O teste de impuls&atilde;o horizontal de Johnson &amp; Nelson (21) &eacute; realizado com o indiv&iacute;duo partindo da posi&ccedil;&atilde;o ortost&aacute;tica, com os p&eacute;s paralelos e em pequeno afastamento lateral.</p>      <p>Partindo de tr&aacute;s de uma linha de partida, o indiv&iacute;duo que est&aacute; sendo testado dever&aacute; saltar o mais longe poss&iacute;vel, podendo contar com a ajuda da flex&atilde;o das pernas e balan&ccedil;o dos bra&ccedil;os. O resultado corresponde &agrave; dist&acirc;ncia entre a linha de partida e o calcanhar que tenha aterrizado o mais pr&oacute;ximo da linha de partida. S&atilde;o permitidas tr&ecirc;s tentativas e computa-se o melhor resultado. O teste de corrida de 30 metros de Popov consiste na realiza&ccedil;&atilde;o de uma corrida partindo da posi&ccedil;&atilde;o ortost&aacute;tica, atr&aacute;s de uma linha de partida. Ap&oacute;s os comandos de &ldquo;pronto&rdquo; e &ldquo;vai&rdquo;, o indiv&iacute;duo testado dever&aacute; correr, na maior velocidade poss&iacute;vel, at&eacute; uma linha de chegada demarcada a 30 metros de dist&acirc;ncia. Um dos testadores dever&aacute; abaixar seu bra&ccedil;o para que o outro testador que est&aacute; posicionado na linha de chegada possa acionar o cron&ocirc;metro. A contagem de tempo &eacute; interrompida quando a maior parte do corpo do testando tiver ultrapassado a linha de chegada, sendo o teste realizado em uma &uacute;nica tentativa. O teste <I>Shuttle </I><I>Run</I> 10x5 metros se inicia com o testador dando o sinal de &ldquo;prepara&rdquo; e, posteriormente, &ldquo;vai&rdquo;, ao testando. O testando dever&aacute; correr uma dist&acirc;ncia de 5 metros, durante cinco ciclos de idas e vindas, ou seja, 10 vezes &agrave; dist&acirc;ncia de 5 metros. Os locais de partida e chegada s&atilde;o demarcados com uma linha e dois cones, para limita&ccedil;&atilde;o do espa&ccedil;o e melhor observa&ccedil;&atilde;o do testando que dever&aacute; ultrapassar, com ambos os p&eacute;s, em cada passagem, as linhas de sa&iacute;da e chegada. O indiv&iacute;duo ter&aacute; duas chances para a realiza&ccedil;&atilde;o do teste e ser&aacute; computado o melhor resultado. O teste de corrida de 1.000 metros, de Klissouras &eacute; realizado atrav&eacute;s de uma corrida de 1.000 metros, de forma cont&iacute;nua, n&atilde;o sendo permitido caminhar durante o teste, sendo realizada apenas uma tentativa. O tempo de corrida (Y) &eacute; medido em segundos e inserido na f&oacute;rmula: 652,17 - Y <img src="img/revistas/rsap/v17n4/v17n4a01img1.jpg"> 6,762, para se encontrar o resultado final. Para as marca&ccedil;&otilde;es dos testes f&iacute;sicos foi utilizada trena antropom&eacute;trica (Sanny<Sup>&reg;</Sup>).</p>      <p>Na terceira visita, os indiv&iacute;duos foram submetidos &agrave; avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o cl&iacute;nica e exame radiol&oacute;gico. Foi realizado exame cl&iacute;nico geral com &ecirc;nfase na caracteriza&ccedil;&atilde;o do desenvolvimento puberal. De cada indiv&iacute;duo foi realizada a avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o do est&aacute;gio de desenvolvimento da genit&aacute;lia externa utilizando-se os crit&eacute;rios de Marshall e Tanner (1970). Nesse mesmo dia, foi realizada radiografia de m&atilde;os e punhos para determina&ccedil;&atilde;o da idade &oacute;ssea, utilizando-se os crit&eacute;rios de Greulich e Pyle (25).</p>      <p>Para an&aacute;lise dos dados, foi realizado tratamento estat&iacute;stico descritivo contendo m&eacute;dia e desvio-padr&atilde;o, para idade cronol&oacute;gica, massa corporal total, estatura, &iacute;ndice de massa corporal e qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas. Para verificar a diferen&ccedil;a entre os est&aacute;gios puberais quanto aos par&acirc;metros avaliados, utilizou-se estat&iacute;stica inferencial do estudo, tendo como teste &agrave; an&aacute;lise de vari&acirc;ncia. Quando a diferen&ccedil;a foi significativa, procedeu-se ao teste de Scheffe. O n&iacute;vel de signific&acirc;ncia assumido foi de 5 % (p&lt;0,05).</p>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>O estudo foi aprovado pelo comit&ecirc; de &Eacute;tica em Pesquisa da Universidade Federal de Juiz de Fora, onde est&aacute; registrado sob o n&uacute;mero: 474.159.2004-Grupo III, estando dentro das normas da Declara&ccedil;&atilde;o de Helsinki.</p>      <P align="center"><b>RESULTADOS</b></p>      <p>Conforme esperado foram encontradas diferen&ccedil;as significativas em todas as vari&aacute;veis ligadas ao crescimento entre os diferentes est&aacute;gios de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual, como pode ser observado na <a href="#t1">Tabela 1</a>.</p>     <p align="center"><a name="t1"></a><img src="img/revistas/rsap/v17n4/v17n4a01t1.jpg"></p>      <p>Quanto &agrave;s qualidades f&iacute;sicas, entre os est&aacute;gios maturacionais, encontraram-se diferen&ccedil;as significativas na maioria dos par&acirc;metros avaliados, com exce&ccedil;&atilde;o da agilidade, como exposto na <a href="#t2">Tabela 2</a>.</p>     <p align="center"><a name="t2"></a><img src="img/revistas/rsap/v17n4/v17n4a01t2.jpg"></p>      <p>No <a href="#f1">Figura 1</a> &eacute; poss&iacute;vel observar o grau de dispers&atilde;o das qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas em rela&ccedil;&atilde;o ao desenvolvimento da genit&aacute;lia externa. Apesar de verificar-se uma varia&ccedil;&atilde;o nos valores em cada est&aacute;gio puberal, h&aacute; uma tend&ecirc;ncia dos resultados aumentarem, demonstrando uma rela&ccedil;&atilde;o significativa entre as qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas e a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual. </p>     <p align="center"><a name="f1"></a><img src="img/revistas/rsap/v17n4/v17n4a01f1.jpg"></p>      <P align="center"> DISCUSS&Atilde;O</p>      <p>Al&eacute;m de permitir estudos sobre o estado nutricional, importante na avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o de diversos quadros como doen&ccedil;as metab&oacute;licas, neoplasias e doen&ccedil;a coronariana (26), a antropometria &eacute; uma importante ferramenta no estudo e entendimento das diferentes varia&ccedil;&otilde;es biol&oacute;gicas humanas, incluindo a morfol&oacute;gica (27). Atrav&eacute;s da observa&ccedil;&atilde;o dos resultados da tabela 1 &eacute; poss&iacute;vel observar que o estado de desenvolvimento da genit&aacute;lia externa guarda rela&ccedil;&atilde;o com todos os par&acirc;metros ligados ao crescimento avaliados neste estudo, j&aacute; que a idade cronol&oacute;gica, a estatura e a massa corporal total aumentaram com o avan&ccedil;o da matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual, com diferen&ccedil;as significativas entre os est&aacute;gios. De forma semelhante, Zsakai et al. (28) encontraram rela&ccedil;&atilde;o entre a composi&ccedil;&atilde;o corporal e a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual em meninos. Tais achados est&atilde;o relacionados &agrave; ativa&ccedil;&atilde;o do eixo hipot&aacute;lamo-hip&oacute;fise-gonadal que estimula &agrave; secre&ccedil;&atilde;o da testosterona nos meninos e consequentemente as modifica&ccedil;&otilde;es morfol&oacute;gicas ligadas &agrave; puberdade (29).</p>      ]]></body>
<body><![CDATA[<p>Al&eacute;m disso, no presente estudo se observou avan&ccedil;o da idade &oacute;ssea com a progress&atilde;o do desenvolvimento sexual. Como se sabe, a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual est&aacute; intimamente ligada n&atilde;o s&oacute; ao crescimento corporal (30), mas tamb&eacute;m ao desenvolvimento &oacute;sseo (31) o que justifica tais achados. Dessa forma, esta diverg&ecirc;ncia do ponto de vista morfol&oacute;gico encontrada entre adolescentes em diferentes est&aacute;gios de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual poderia privilegiar os indiv&iacute;duos em estadiamento mais avan&ccedil;ado, j&aacute; que este contribui significativamente para o rendimento f&iacute;sico (32).</p>      <p>No presente estudo, tamb&eacute;m o IMC mostrou rela&ccedil;&atilde;o com matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual, o que est&aacute; em concord&acirc;ncia com os achados de Castilho et al. (33) que estudaram meninos entre 9 a 18 anos. Esta vari&aacute;vel, importante na observa&ccedil;&atilde;o do estado nutricional sobretudo, no que diz respeito a obesidade e sobrepeso (34), apesar de mostrar tend&ecirc;ncia de aumento, exibe um decr&eacute;scimo coincidente com o est&aacute;gio III de desenvolvimento genital. Tal achado poderia estar ligado a aumentos desproporcionais entre a estatura e a massa corporal total uma vez que o pico de aumento estatural que influencia na composi&ccedil;&atilde;o corporal (8) se inicia logo ap&oacute;s o est&aacute;gio III de desenvolvimento da genit&aacute;lia externa (35).</p>      <p>Tamb&eacute;m as qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas s&atilde;o influenciadas pelo processo maturacional dos jovens (8,36,37) e s&atilde;o importantes par&acirc;metros a serem trabalhados na inf&acirc;ncia e adolesc&ecirc;ncia para uma vida adulta mais saud&aacute;vel (38), al&eacute;m de serem de grande import&acirc;ncia para o sucesso em atividades esportivas, como meio de se alcan&ccedil;ar o melhor rendimento f&iacute;sico (39). Estudos (36,8) indicam que jovens com matura&ccedil;&atilde;o precoce possuem melhores resultados nos testes f&iacute;sicos quando comparados &agrave;queles com matura&ccedil;&atilde;o tardia e com mesma idade cronol&oacute;gica gerando preocupa&ccedil;&atilde;o dos profissionais que trabalham com o p&uacute;blico infanto-juvenil, uma vez que as competi&ccedil;&otilde;es desportivas s&atilde;o categorizadas de acordo com a idade cronol&oacute;gica.</p>      <p>Na an&aacute;lise dos resultados apresentados na tabela 2 &eacute; poss&iacute;vel observar diferen&ccedil;as significativas nos par&acirc;metros ligados &agrave; for&ccedil;a, a pot&ecirc;ncia aer&oacute;bica e a velocidade em rela&ccedil;&atilde;o aos diferentes est&aacute;gios de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual. A for&ccedil;a, que &eacute; de grande import&acirc;ncia para a realiza&ccedil;&atilde;o das atividades di&aacute;rias e esportivas (2) mostrou aumento significativo com o avan&ccedil;ar dos est&aacute;gios de matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual. Tal achado pode ser explicado, na maioria dos casos, pelo aumento na secre&ccedil;&atilde;o dos ester&oacute;ides sexuais, no caso a testosterona, que leva &agrave; matura&ccedil;&atilde;o f&iacute;sica (40), a secre&ccedil;&atilde;o de fatores ligados ao crescimento (36), com reflexos na estatura, no comprimento dos membros inferiores e no ganho de massa muscular que acontecem durante a puberdade (13). Esta rela&ccedil;&atilde;o entre a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o e a for&ccedil;a foi tamb&eacute;m encontrada em outros estudos realizados com meninos (7,32,41,42,43).</p>      <p>Embora seja observada uma tend&ecirc;ncia de aumento, em valores absolutos, a agilidade foi a &uacute;nica qualidade f&iacute;sica que n&atilde;o mostrou diferen&ccedil;a significativa entre os est&aacute;gios maturacionais. Tamb&eacute;m outros estudos que encontraram rela&ccedil;&atilde;o entre a agilidade e a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o n&atilde;o encontram resultados significativos no que diz respeito &aacute; agilidade (14,44). Tal achado poderia ser explicado pelo fato de que a agilidade possui sua fase sens&iacute;vel ou cr&iacute;tica descrita por Magill e Andeerson (45) como o per&iacute;odo ideal para a aprendizagem de uma habilidade ocorrendo em per&iacute;odo anterior &agrave;s demais qualidades f&iacute;sicas. Al&eacute;m disso, os testes de agilidade exigem boa coordena&ccedil;&atilde;o motora, j&aacute; que h&aacute; a necessidade de mudan&ccedil;as de dire&ccedil;&atilde;o e posi&ccedil;&atilde;o do corpo na realiza&ccedil;&atilde;o dos mesmos e, em alguns momentos da puberdade, ela pode estar dificultada, por se tratar de um per&iacute;odo em que ocorre desajeitamento corporal tempor&aacute;rio devido ao estir&atilde;o do crescimento (46).</p>      <p>Quanto &agrave; pot&ecirc;ncia aer&oacute;bica observou-se melhora significativa em paralelo com a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual. Achados semelhantes s&atilde;o descritos por Mikulic, Ruzic and Leko (47) tanto no VO<Sub>2m&aacute;x</Sub>. absoluto como no relativo. Esta melhora no VO<Sub>2m&aacute;x</Sub>. pode estar ligada ao crescimento da estatura e massa corporal (48), assim como o aumento da oxigena&ccedil;&atilde;o muscular, motivado pelo aumento dos n&iacute;veis de hemoglobina no sangue observados durante a puberdade (49).</p>      <p>No que diz respeito &agrave; velocidade, Freitas et al. (44) n&atilde;o encontraram rela&ccedil;&atilde;o desse par&acirc;metro com a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual, em crian&ccedil;as e adolescentes da Ilha da Madeira, por&eacute;m em futebolistas de 13 a 15 anos estudados por Malina et al. (50) &eacute; descrita uma rela&ccedil;&atilde;o entre a velocidade e a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o e a massa corporal. Como a velocidade est&aacute; intimamente ligada aos n&iacute;veis de for&ccedil;a muscular (43,51), os achados do presente estudo poderiam ser atribu&iacute;do &agrave;s mudan&ccedil;as end&oacute;crinas caracter&iacute;sticas da puberdade que possuem forte impacto no desenvolvimento muscular (28).</p>      <p>Com isto, conclui-se que a matura&ccedil;&atilde;o sexual avaliada atrav&eacute;s dos est&aacute;gios de desenvolvimento da genit&aacute;lia externa exerce grande influ&ecirc;ncia sobre vari&aacute;veis antropom&eacute;tricas, a idade &oacute;ssea e as qualidades f&iacute;sicas b&aacute;sicas em adolescentes de 10 a 14 anos. Tais achados sugerem ser a avalia&ccedil;&atilde;o do estadiamento puberal uma vari&aacute;vel imprescind&iacute;vel para a an&aacute;lise mais adequada de adolescentes quanto ao crescimento e desenvolvimento e, consequentemente, das suas potencialidades f&iacute;sicas.
