Objetivo:  interpretar factores que condicionan los hábitos alimentarios, referidos al significado de alimentación sana, el comer fuera de casa, las preferencias alimentarias y los factores sociales de estudiantes de educación superior.  Materiales y métodos: a través de un estudio cualitativo con enfoque fenomenológico, se entrevistaron 30 estudiantes de educación superior, entre quienes se profundizó en diversos aspectos que condicionan una alimentación saludable. Las respuestas de los participantes se analizaron a través del análisis de contenido.  Resultados: los entrevistados lograron identificar aspectos propios de una alimentación saludable, como la composición química de alimentos y el desarrollo de tiempos y horarios de alimentación, destacando las comidas preparadas en casa, por la madre y consumidas en familia, como una instancia positiva para una alimentación saludable; sin embargo, destacaron los amigos, la falta de tiempo y la publicidad, al igual que la información obtenida desde las redes sociales, como limitantes para mantener hábitos saludables desde la alimentación.  Conclusión: si bien los estudiantes reconocen la necesidad de una alimentación saludable para conservar un adecuado estado de salud, esta etapa del curso de la vida es percibida como dificultosa para el logro de este fin.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Background: It is essential that young adults obtain healthy life habits during the disciplinary training stage.  Objective: Interpret factors that shape dietary and healthy eating habits, food preferences and eating outside the home, and social factors in higher-education students.  Materials and Methods: Using a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach, 30 higher-education students were interviewed with in-depth questions regarding diverse aspects that shape healthy eating habits. Participant responses were analyzed through content analysis.  Results: Participants identified aspects of their own healthy eating habits, such as the composition and ingredients of foods, and number and timing of meals. They highlighted meals made at home by their mothers and eaten with their families as a positive contributor to healthy eating, however identified limitations to maintaining healthy eating habits such as friends, lack of time, advertising, and information from social media.  Conclusions: Although students recognize the need for healthy eating to maintain adequate health status, it is perceived as difficult to achieve at this stage of life due to a number of factors.]]></p></abstract>
