Los bioplásticos se presentan como una alternativa más sostenible para sustituir los plásticos de un solo uso. Esta investigación analiza la percepción de los consumidores e industriales frente al uso de bioplástico para los empaques de los alimentos de consumo masivo en la región del norte del departamento del Cauca y sur del Valle del Cauca, en Colombia. Se usa una metodología mixta con información cualitativa y cuantitativa, incluyendo trabajo de campo de observación de empaques en el mercado, encuestas a consumidores de la región caracterizadas por género, estrato socioeconómico y edad, y entrevistas a ejecutivos de industrias de alimentos y empresas de plásticos. La disposición final de los bioplásticos tiene una estructura de separación en la fuente y aprovechamiento similar a los derivados del petróleo, su uso adiciona un nuevo material que, con la estructura actual, se sumaría a cerrar su ciclo en rellenos sanitarios y fuentes hídricas, sin generar impactos favorables. Las ventajas de los bioplásticos son su posibilidad de compostar y su origen de fuentes renovables.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Massive food market trends and food safety demands have favored the use of plastic packaging from fossil sources generating critical environmental, social, and economic impacts. Bioplastics are presented as a more sustainable alternative to replace single-use plastics. This research analyzes consumers' perceptions and industrialists regarding the use of bioplastics for the packaging of food for mass consumption in the northern region of the department of Cauca and southern Valle del Cauca, in Colombia. It uses a mixed methodology with qualitative and quantitative information, including fieldwork observation of packaging in the market, consumer surveys in the region characterized by gender, socioeconomic stratum and age, and interviews with executives from food industries and plastics companies. The final disposition of the bioplastics has a structure of separation in the source and uses derivatives similar to petroleum, its use adds a new material that with the current structure would be added to close its cycle in sanitary landfills and water sources, without generating favorable impacts. The advantages of bioplastics are their compostability and their origin from renewable sources.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo As tendências do mercado de alimentos em massa e os requisitos de segurança alimentar têm favorecido o uso de embalagens plásticas de origem fóssil, gerando impactos críticos nos níveis ambiental, social e econômico. Os bioplásticos se apresentam como uma alternativa mais sustentável para substituir os plásticos descartáveis. Esta pesquisa analisa a percepção de consumidores e industriais sobre o uso de bioplástico para embalagens de alimentos de grande consumo na região norte do departamento de Cauca e sul do Valle del Cauca, na Colômbia. É utilizada uma metodologia mista com informações qualitativas e quantitativas, incluindo trabalho de campo para observação de embalagens no mercado e pesquisas com consumidores da região, caracterizadas por gênero, nível socioeconômico e idade, e entrevistas com executivos de indústrias alimentícias e de plásticos. A disposição final dos bioplásticos tem uma estrutura de separação na fonte e utilização semelhante à dos derivados de petróleo, sua utilização agrega um novo material que com a estrutura atual agregaria ao fechamento de seu ciclo em aterros sanitários e fontes hídricas, sem gerar impactos favoráveis. As vantagens dos bioplásticos são a possibilidade de compostagem e a origem de fontes renováveis.]]></p></abstract>
