<self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_arttext&amp;pid=S0304-35842024000200003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_abstract&amp;pid=S0304-35842024000200003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><self-uri xlink:href="http://www.scielo.org.co/scielo.php?script=sci_pdf&amp;pid=S0304-35842024000200003&amp;lng=en&amp;nrm=iso"></self-uri><abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen Este trabajo se desarrolló con el fin de identificar el patrón de estratificación y mezcla en el embalse Hatillo, el más grande de las Antillas Mayores y el de mayor capacidad de almacenamiento de agua en la República Dominicana, construido en 1984 en la cuenca baja del río Yuna para generación de energía eléctrica, distrito de riego y control de inundaciones. Se recopilaron 52 perfiles verticales diurnos de temperatura, conductividad eléctrica, oxígeno disuelto y pH tomados en la zona limnética del embalse desde el año 2011 hasta el 2021. Se establece la mezcla cuando la diferencia entre la temperatura superficial y la de fondo es inferior a 1 °C, es decir gradientes inferiores a 0,06 °C por metro, valores totales de Resistencia Termal Relativa (RTR) a la mezcla, menores a 40, es decir menores a 1,8 por metro. El seguimiento térmico realizado por diez años ha permitido establecer que las masas de agua del embalse permanecen estratificadas térmicamente la mayor parte del año, con eventos de mezcla de frecuencia anual con duración de un mes entre diciembre y marzo, de manera que se define como un Lago Monomíctico Cálido según la revisión que hizo Lewis Jr. (1983a) a la clasificación de Hutchinson y Löffler (1956).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract This work was developed to identify the stratification and mixing pattern in the Hatillo reservoir, the largest reservoir in the Greater Antilles and the reservoir with the greatest water storage capacity in the Dominican Republic, built in 1984 in the lower basin of the Yuna River for electric power generation, irrigation district and flood control. Fifty-two diurnal vertical profiles of temperature, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen and pH in the limnetic zone of the reservoir from 2011 to 2021 were collected. Mixing is established when the difference between surface and bottom temperature is less than 1 °C, that is, gradients less than 0.06 °C per meter, total values of Relative Thermal Resistance to Mixing-RTR less than 40, that is, less than 1.8 per meter. The thermal monitoring carried out for ten years has allowed us to establish that the water masses of the reservoir remain thermally stratified most of the year, with annual mixing events lasting one month between December and March. The Hatillo reservoir is defined as a Warm Monomictic Lake according to the revision made by Lewis Jr. (1983a) to the classification of Hutchinson y Löffler (1956).]]></p></abstract>
