Estas sabanas tienen gran conectividad y diversidad ecosistémica, incluida la conformación de diferentes tipos de humedales, por lo que comprender la forma en que sus comunidades de peces se estructuran en los diversos ambientes es clave para la conservación biológica. El objetivo de este estudio fue determinar la diversidad, la composición y la estructura de los ensamblajes ícticos en los humedales, caños del sistema río-planicie de inundación y esteros del sistema periférico en la sabana inundable del río Ariporo (Casanare). Para ello se analizaron siete sitios distribuidos en ambos tipos de humedales muestreados durante dos periodos hidrométricos en aguas en descenso y aguas bajas. Los peces se recolectaron utilizando una red de arrastre de 10 m x 1,5 m y ojo de malla de 2 mm. La estructura y diversidad de los ensamblajes ícticos se analizaron mediante los modelos de distribución-abundancia, los números de Hill, el análisis de escalamiento multidimensional no-métrico (EMNM) y el índice de especies indicadoras (IndVal). Los resultados indicaron que los caños albergan la mayor riqueza y diversidad de especies. Asimismo, el EMNM (stress=0,00009) evidenció la conformación de dos ensamblajes ícticos según el tipo de humedal. En el ensamblaje íctico de caños, se registraron especies especialistas como indicadoras a diferencia de los esteros. Se sugiere que los caños albergan comunidades más complejas y diversas, en tanto que los esteros son dominados por especies generalistas.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract Flooded savannas are an important biome for the functionality and diversity of the Orinoco fish communities. These savannas have high connectivity and ecosystemic diversity including the configuration of different types of wetlands. Understanding how fish communities are structured is critical for biological conservation. Here we aimed at determining the diversity, composition, and structure of fish assemblages in the caños of the river-floodplain complex and in the esteros in the peripheral system of the Ariporo River flooded savanna in Casanare (Colombia). We sampled seven sites (four in caños and three in esteros) during two hydrometric seasons in descending and low waters. In each site, we collected fish with a 10 x 1.5 m seine net (2 mm mesh). We analyzed the structure and diversity of fish communities using distribution-abundance models, Hill numbers, non-metric multidimensional scaling analysis (NMDS), and the indicator species index (IndVal). Our results evidenced that caños had the highest richness and species diversity. The NMDS analysis (stress=0.00009) showed two fish assemblages depending on the wetland type. In caño fish assemblages we registered specialist indicator species, but not in the esteros. These results suggest that caños have more complex and diverse fish assemblages while esteros assemblages are dominated by generalist species.]]></p></abstract>
