Antes que un resultado de tradiciones arraigadas en la antropología visual -marcadamente dependientes del documental etnográfico y sus derivaciones, cuando no entrampadas en cuestiones sobre representación-, la antropología de la imagen se fundamenta en la activación de varias estrategias y lógicas, más allá del método y los manuales de metodología. La reconfiguración de la figura del antropólogo como una persona conceptual, y las intrusiones mutuas entre la antropología y el arte contemporáneo, redefinen radicalmente la naturaleza del trabajo de campo y de lo empírico. De hecho, el trabajo de campo se ve transformado mediante el diseño y la práctica curatoriales, y redefinido como image-work (trabajo-con-imágenes). Así, la curaduría de las imágenes surge como un sustituto posible, entre otros, del método comparativo.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract: The anthropology of the image is an emerging field of inquiry. It is the result of three separate yet closely interconnected lines of flight: the reconfiguration and expansion of the conversation between art, philosophy, and anthropology; anthropology's shift beyond the classic focus on ethnos towards strategies of assemblage; and the recognition of the need to curate the daily practices of anthropology itself. Decisively not the result of developments rooted in visual anthropology -which are noticeably dependent on the ethnographic documentary and its offshoots, trapped in issues regarding representation- the anthropology of the image is based on the activation of several strategies and logics which work against the grain of ethnographic method and manuals of methodology. The reshaping of the figure of the anthropologist as a conceptual persona and the mutual intrusions of anthropology and contemporary art -both prominent features of the anthropology of the image- ultimately amount to a radical redefinition of the nature of fieldwork and the empirical approach. In fact, fieldwork is being transformed by design and curatorial practices and redefined as image-work. The curation of images also emerges as a surrogate, among others, to the comparative method.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="pt"><p><![CDATA[Resumo: A antropologia da imagem é um campo emergente de pesquisa resultante de três linhas de fuga separadas, mas intimamente interconectadas: a renovação e a expansão do diálogo entre antropologia, arte e filosofia; a remoção da clássica abordagem sobre o ethnos na disciplina a estratégias de assemblagem e o reconhecimento da necessidade de curar o fazer em si da antropologia. Antes de ser um resultado de tradições enraizadas na antropologia visual -marcadamente dependentes do documentário etnográfico e de suas derivações, quando não contidas em questões sobre representação-, a antropologia da imagem se fundamenta na ativação de várias estratégias e lógicas que vão mais além do método e dos manuais de metodologia: a reconfiguração da figura do antropólogo como uma pessoa conceitual. As fusões entre a antropologia e a arte contemporânea redefinem radicalmente a natureza do trabalho de campo e do empírico. De fato, o trabalho de campo se vê transformado por meio do desenho e da prática curatoriais, e redefinido como image-work (trabalho-em-imagem). Assim, a curadoria das imagens surge como uma possível substituição, entre outras, do método comparativo.]]></p></abstract>
