This article studies the criminal organization known as Tren de Aragua and its rapid expansion in Colombia, Peru, Ecuador and Chile in recent years. Based on data science and the tool Meltwater, the social listening in digital media about this phenomenon between 2021 and 2023 is analyzed. The findings show an increase in media coverage on the subject, which emphasizes in the state weakness to prevent and penalize crime. This group capitalizes institutional gaps and the mobility of Venezuelan migrants to establish criminal economies adapted to the distinctive features of each country where it settles in. In turn, media has enlarged the use of violence by this organization and has increased the public concern about governmental inefficiency. These findings highlight the necessity of coordinated responses to deal with the transnational criminal organizations in Latin America.
</abstract>
