Objetivo: analizar los principales procesos de transformación de biomasa para ser implementados en el aprovechamiento de los residuos de la agroindustria del plátano.  Metodología: la consulta de la información se realizó en diferentes bases de datos como: Web of Science, Scopus y Google Scholar. Se utilizaron diferentes palabras claves en inglés y español como: "waste"; "process"; "transformation"; "banana" and "plantain". La información se analizó en MS Excel.  Resultados: los procesos de conversión física y biológica pueden ser una alternativa para la valorización de los residuos de la agroindustria del plátano en diferentes productos de valor agregado como alimentos para animales y biocombustibles debido a la cantidad y composición de este tipo de residuos. El alto contenido de humedad de estos residuos puede representar un inconveniente para su aprovechamiento. Es necesario extraer agua de la matriz para aumentar la eficiencia en la transformación.  Conclusiones: diseñar y evaluar tecno-económica, ambiental y socialmente los procesos de transformación físicos y biológicos en el contexto de las biorrefinerías puede apoyar la toma de decisiones de inversión e investigación en este tipo de tecnologías para ser implementadas a nivel industrial.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction: agricultural waste is increasing worldwide. It is necessary to identify new strategies for its valorization.  Objective: analyze the main processes of transformation of biomass to be implemented in the use of the waste of the plantain agroindustry.  Methodology: the information was consulted in different databases such as Web of Science, Scopus and Google Scholar. Different keywords in English and Spanish were used: waste; process; transformation; banana and plantain. The information was analyzed in MS Excel.  Results: the physical and biological conversion processes can be an alternative for the waste valorization of plantain agroindustry in different value-added products such as animal feed and biofuels due to the quantity and composition of this type of waste. The high moisture content of this waste is an inconvenience to its valorization. It is necessary to extract an amount of water from the matrix to increase the efficiency in the transformation.  Conclusions: the design and techno-economic, environmental and social assessment of physical and biological conversion processes in the context on biorefineries can support investment and research decisions in this type of technologies to be implemented at a large scale.]]></p></abstract>

Objetivo: analisar os principais processos de transformação de biomassa para implementar no aproveitamento dos resíduos da agroindústria do platano.  Metodologia: a informação foi consultada em bases de dados como: Web of Science, Scopus e Google Scholar. Diferentes palavras chaves em inglês e espanhol foram utilizadas: "waste"; "process"; "transformation"; "banana" e "plantain". A informação foi analisada em MS Excel.  Resultados: os processos de conversão física e biológica podem ser uma alternativa para a valorização dos resíduos da agroindústria do platano em diferentes produtos de valor agregado como para a alimentação animal e os biocombustíveis, devido à quantidade e composição deste tipo de resíduos. O elevado teor de humidade destes resíduos pode constituir um inconveniente para o seu aproveitamento. É necessário extrair agua da matriz para aumentar a eficiência na transformação.
