Esta condición se presenta frecuentemente en patologías como lesión renal aguda, síndrome nefrótico y cirrosis, las herramientas que permiten precisar la evaluación de la congestión son cruciales para brindar un manejo clínico individualizado.  Objetivo: Describir el uso de la ecografía POCUS en la identificación y el manejo de la congestión sistémica en adultos, teniendo en cuenta la medición de la vena yugular, la ecografía pulmonar y el sistema de clasificación de la congestión venosa por ultrasonido (VExUS, según sus siglas en inglés). Se describen brevemente algunas situaciones especiales, como lo son el síndrome nefrótico, la cirrosis y la lesión renal aguda.  Metodología: Se realizó una revisión de alcance siguiendo el marco metodológico de Arksey y O'Malley, y la guía PRISMA-ScR. Las bases de datos consultadas fueron PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library y Lilacs.  Resultados:  POCUS permite identificar signos de congestión sistémica en múltiples territorios, incluyendo: vena yugular, pulmones, venas abdominales (como porta, renal y suprahepática), entre otros. Su aplicación facilita la caracterización del estado hemodinámico y puede contribuir al seguimiento de la respuesta clínica al tratamiento descongestivo.  Conclusiones:  POCUS es una herramienta valiosa y versátil para la evaluación integral de la congestión sistémica, brindando información vital para guiar el diagnóstico y el tratamiento, mejorando potencialmente los resultados clínicos en pacientes críticos.]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="en"><p><![CDATA[Abstract  Introduction: Point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) has been positioned as a non-invasive and effective tool to complement the clinical diagnosis of systemic congestion. This condition frequently occurs in pathologies such as nephrotic syndrome, acute kidney injury and cirrhosis; tools that allow precise evaluation of congestion are crucial to provide individualized clinical management.  Objectives: To describe the use of PoCUS in the identification and management of systemic congestion in adults, taking into account jugular vein measurement, lung ultrasound, and VExUS. A brief description is provided of some special situations, such as nephrotic syndrome, cirrhosis, and acute kidney injury.  Methods: A scoping review was carried out following the methodological framework of Arksey and O'Malley and the PRISMA-ScR guide, the databases consulted were PubMed, Scopus, Cochrane Library and LILACS.  Results: PoCUS allows the identification of signs of systemic congestion across multiple territories, including the jugular vein, lungs, and abdominal veins (such as the portal, renal, and hepatic veins), among others. Its application facilitates the characterization of hemodynamic status and may aid in monitoring clinical response to decongestive therapy.  Conclusions: PoCUS is a valuable and versatile tool for the comprehensive evaluation of systemic congestion providing vital information to guide diagnosis and treatment, potentially improving clinical outcomes in critically ill patients.]]></p></abstract>
