However, considering the broad advantages offered by fiber optics, research projects in this area go beyond data transmission; among the topics that can be found in this field are photonic sensors. Some characteristics decisive now in promoting the research of photonic sensors are the unique advantages that they offer, such as immunity to electromagnetic interference, its low weight and volume, and long lifetime, among others. This paper presents the design and analysis of a distributed optical sensors network using the largest network topology in the country, called the National Optical Fiber Project (PNFO).]]></p></abstract>
<abstract abstract-type="short" xml:lang="es"><p><![CDATA[Resumen La fibra óptica se ha usado como medio de transmisión en redes de comunicaciones de datos durante muchos años, sin embargo, y teniendo en cuenta las amplias ventajas que ofrece la fibra óptica, los proyectos de investigación en esta área van más allá de la transmisión de datos; entre los temas que se pueden encontrar en esta rama se desarrollan los sensores de fibra óptica. Algunas características que han sido decisivas al momento de impulsar la investigación de los sensores a fibra óptica son las ventajas únicas que estos ofrecen, como la inmunidad a interferencia electromagnética, su bajo peso y volumen, su largo tiempo de vida, entre otras. Este artículo presenta el diseño y análisis de una red de sensores ópticos distribuidos usando la topología de red más grande del país, denominado proyecto Nacional de Fibra Óptica (PNFO).]]></p></abstract>
